What happened to the mini quad knowledge on this site?

Sqeege, I'll try to answer that without stirring up a mess. A while back, this forum had it's share of vendors and parts gurus who were huge contributors. One in particular had devoted hours and hours reponding to peoples's qwestions. But then, one day, that member and all those hours of contribution just dissapeared with a keystroke. What a waste. Guy ticked someone off I guess. Guys like Hetrick, L7R, WRH, Trinity, Sims, MaxRPM, to name a few, go where they are welcomed, and yeah, they're in it for the money. More importantly, they're in it for a deeply ingrained love of our sport. None of these guys just woke up one day and decided to be a mini-quad expert. The experience that these guys bring to the table and their dedication to the proliferation of our sport deserve something! And even though they've earned the right to ask for compensation, rarely do you see them do it out of respect for the forum. This forum is so against anyone even hinting that they might like compensation for their knowledge that it's no wonder that the big guns don't even offer to help here. (I mean no offense to anyone already here who considers themselves good with the minis. I certainly repect you too, lol! Love Spike to death, great guy!) But here, ya can't link to a web page, can't offer to sell a solution, can't even point folks to your eBay auctions without threat of reprisal, for pete's sake. I for one am not opposed to helping anyone. I have a toll free tech line that I pay for because my typing ain't the greatest, lol! And yeah, I'll sell a part or 2 over that line to help pay the expense. But heaven forbid if I try to post that # here. Other highly respected forums seem to have a little more tolerance for that kind of activity. Anyway, that's my 2 penny's worth. I believe that this post and my user profile will probably dissapear soon, so read this while ya can, lol! If I don't get zapped, then by all means, fire away with any mini-quad questions you have. I'll do my best to help. I do apologise for stepping on toes, but the truth hurts sometimes. For those that read this and need help, I'm one of the above mentioned mini-quad guys. If I don't get blasted off again, I promise to behave. Ride safe everybody! Yippee Ki Yayyyy!! Ed and crew.

Then too, you have seen a couple years of WEB wars... where guys will come in and stir things up so bad that people get frustrated and go elsewhere. There was a time that if a member would direct a fellow member to a competing website, they would also get zapped. The vendor problem was getting out of hand a couple years ago, you have to admit that. It got to the point that every time a question was asked, some vendors would jump in and make claims that were downright lies... (Can I say that?). The credability was lost, not to mention the lost revenue that the website could have been making if they had advertized properly. Those guys know who they are... I don't need to name names.
From a member standpoint, I think a site that is strong can afford to point people to other websites. That way, they come here first, and that is what it is all about. In this business, Money is made by counting click-throughs. It just makes sense that the first place to start you rsearch would be the focal point.
Lastly, guys like me were touting the family aspect.. maybe a little too far in some cases.. and regretably, we may have sent some people away that had good thoughts and ideas. For that I apologise for all of us old timers that like to climb on soap boxes from time to time.
(See Raptorlegs, I have mellowed, 2 heart attacks, an inplanted stent, 8 surgeries on my knee and ankle in 4 years will do that to a guy...)

Not everybody gets made at the same ol' question asked over and over, problem is, people want to read every thread and feel they need to have a say even if it means complaining!!! It's not like the added thread is taking up their computer memory

Actually the only subject I think we disagreed on originally was the off brand issue, and I even did a 180 on that thanks to you.... I still don't recommend them if a parent isn't real mechanically inclined, but I think they have their place. There are good ones, and bad ones, just like people. My only complaint is that they don't seem to be adding anything to the sport. Things like contributing to safety research, lobbying for more riding areas, training programs etc. I'd like to see them do more in these areas... but hey, if it means adding new members to the fold, I'll bite my tongue, pat them on teh back and welcome anyone who rides one.
Really, I just couldn't help myself rubbing it in a little. That is about all the fun a guy gets any more... With the bum ankle, I can't even chase Mrs DB around the house any more...so this is as good as it gets until the darn thing heals. And wouldn[t you know, it was just after I finally got the knee right... Oh well, luck of the Norwiegains...

Hey, why don't we ask the moderator to open a secondary thread for repeat questions? (Maybe just under the mini section, call it "Mini Tech Q&A" or some such.) That way we can move many of the commonly asked (and often repetitive) questions and answers for reference. That way we just direct the repetitive questions to that thread. We could work together to build a pretty good reference library. You basically build threads for CVT, carb tuning, anything worthy of much discussion on subjects that arise a lot. That seems to work pretty good on some other forums I visit. Just a thought. Ride safe all, Ed.

squeege,
If you are looking for info on your specific brand of mini, use the forum's Search Engine. For example, E-Ton, Polaris, etc. Or if you want to search for a topic area, use a different word in the Search Engine. For example, "water" or "Suspension". Yes, you may find different brands of minis but solutions to their Water Crossing or Suspension improvements may apply to your specific brand of mini as well. Using the Search Engine for previous posts does work.
Or as a few mentioned above, simply ask the question. For example, "how do I make my brand of mini's suspension better?". Folks with that brand or related brand will "dive in" (sort of speaking) to help out. Many help out because they've "been there, done that" and know that their assistance will reduce your development time. Thus, you and your young rider can spend more hours on the seat. (this is a great thing).
If wondering, some of the "seasonsed" folks are either racing, on vacation or have moved onto different things in life. My family just required from 2 weeks vacation. Thus, my slow reply on this thread. I'm sure the more knowledgeable folks are touring around for end of summer racing. If you post a question of an older mini or you need advice in a specific area, simply post your question in a new thread. It may take time but both old and new folks will reply to your question(s). That's what this forum is about...
Hope this helps....
