Default any opinion of 2 stroke or 4 stroke

Two stroke is rapidly being phased out everywhere. Snowmobiles, personal water craft, boat motors, lawn mowers, all terrain vehicles - you name it. The carburetor has also gone the way of the dinosaurs. Manufacturers will continue to milk the two stroke engines and the antique induction as long as they can get away with it . . . which isn't very much longer. As long as 2 strokes can meet epa regulations they will still be made. Alot of outboard boat motors are 2 strokes and are cleaner than 4 strokes. Same with snowmobiles. Thay cant make a 4 stroke snowmobile motor with as much power as a 2 stroke and still keep the weight down. There is alot of 2 strokes that will still be around and may never go away as technology gets better.

I agree with clutchroast... 2 strokes are a dying breed. Say what you want, they are on their way out. This has a lot of people up in arms.. especially the chain saw folks. I disagree with use of 2 strokes in snowmobiles etc. A quick check almost across the board shows 4 strokes make up the majority, and 2 strokes being phased out. those that remain have their days numbered I am afraid. Same goes for boat motors too. Factory rep told me a while back that 4 strokes outsell 2 strokes almost 2 to one... and his vision of the future was pretty bleak regarding 2-strokes. That is a bad omen for them as they have litterally billions invested in 2 stroke R&D.

If you want one, you had better jump fast. They are unfortunately going the way of the Dinosoar.

I say 4 stoke for the fact that the possibility arises for 2 strokes to be banned from state owned land. And I really doubt that there will be a lot of "bolt ons" done to it as suggested in this posting. My 4 year old rides a 4 stroke Kazuma and loves it alot. Does well on it as well. However it is not an automatic. But what better time to learn to shift gears than while you're young?
