mini-ute
#1
just got back from riding with my 6 year old son on his new mini-ute from raceway. he loved it. it did really well as far as hills ,didnt bog down. looks good too.only "thing" that happened was he went in some water too fast and threw some water on the air filter, and it sputtered a few times , then took right off! the alarm is too cool, so is electric start. if this thing last it'll be a steal! if they only made "baby gators"! im gonna get some pics soon. my question is , on his quad the air filter is on the side of the carb exposed to the elements, i was wondering if there is anyone who knows how to build something to cover it or relocate it.i had an idea to put on a piece of pvc pipe or rubber hose relocate it with the air filter on top. would this work? it is a four stroke 110 mini. this thing does great except when water hits the filter which makes it sputter for a few moments, not a big deal but he likes to hit them holes! any suggestions would help!

mykool61679,
The mod is possible. Just remember when you change the air flow to the carb you will have to rejet the carb. I did an air filter mod on my daughters quad and a rejet was required, mine ran very lean. Make sure to take plug readings and rejet as needed. Post some pics of your mod when your finished and let others know what jets you used whether you have to jet for a rich or lean condition.
Good Luck,
SB.

mykool61679,
You will have to pull your carb apart and remove the main and pilot jet, take them with you to a local motorcycle shop, the parts dept should be able to help you. If you need to order them online you will have to measure the jets and order accordingly. Here are some sites to look at.
Keihin Jet List
Mikuni
Sudco
Jets-R-Us
Even though you have a Chinese carb the jets from a Mikuni or Keihin should work. My CV carb is based off the Keihin CV carb. I used the Keihin jets for replacements. You will need to buy a few mains and I would get a couple pilots also. The needle is a little harder to replace. You should not have to replace the needle jet but you never know until you start your jetting.
I hope this helps.

You could try making a deflector to protect the filter from elements splashing up. Maybe even something as simple as a cut up 2 liter bottle to see if it will work. Just make sure to leave a drain near the lowest spot. Add on an Outerware style wrap to the filter for some additional waterproofing and you should be good to go as long as you keep the filters exposure reasonable.
