Default My initial review-Raceway Mini-Ute 100

Background:

The Raceway Mini-Ute 100 is imported by Jetmoto for sale by Raceway. I is available in 6" or 7" wheels; I opted for the 7" wheels for our machine. It comes in Blue, Black, Tree Camo, Green Camo, or Pink Camo. I first ordered mine in the Tree Camo version, but later asked for Black plastic instead (I will explain this later). It has front and rear racks, CVT tranny, rear disc brake, dual control arm front suspension, rear swingarm suspension, front and rear adjustable shocks, tether kill switch in the rear, remote start/kill/alarm, working headlights and tail/brake lights, chain drive, full floorboards, electric start, and a 96cc Loncin motor.

Dimensions:

Ground to grips - 31"
Ground to seat - 22"
Seat to floorboards - 16"
Floorboard width - 11"
Length - 49"
Width - 29"

Assembly:

Assembly was fairly simple. The front and rear shocks come partially disassembled so that the shipping crate can be smaller. You must install and tighted one bolt in all three shocks. Then you must tighten the nut for each of the 4 hubs and install cotter pins. Next tighten all of the lugs for the wheels. Go over all of the bolts and nuts on the machine for tightness. Most of mine were loctited already. If you have any that aren't, loctite them now. I then filled the battery with acid, charged and installed. Next was to install the handlebars, and finally the rear rack. Once all of that was finished, I drained the shipping oil out of the machine, and put fresh 10w-40 in it. DO NOT START THE MACHINE UNTIL YOU DRAIN THE SHIPPING OIL OUT.

The Review:

My machine started out with Yellow Leaf Camo, but during shipping, the plastic was cracked in at least five different places. Mine also came minus one of the handlebar mounts, and missing one of the handlebar mounting bolts. I called Raceway and they had a mount to me the next day, and the plastic within two days. As for missing bolts I went to the local hardware store and purchased stainless steel bolts for the handlebars and for the rear rack. As for the plastic, I noticed that if the Leaf Camo takes a gouge or a crack, it will start to peel. I opted then for black plastic instead which is what John (Raceway) sent to me. Customer service 100% as always. After all assembly was taken care of it was time for the first ride. This quad started up every time with no problem during temperatures outside in the teens. The suspension is not typical of some of the Chinese quads out there. The front is not stiff and takes the bumps nicely with no bump steer. The rear reminds me of a pogo stick, with more spring than shock, but it seems to do well. The headlights have high and low beam, and high beam is nice and bright. The rear brake lights are very visible even in the daytime. It was very capable in about 5-6 inches of snow that we had and had plenty of climbing power to it. I think the alarm is a little corny, but it actually serves it's purpose as an alarm very good. Even a slight bump will make it start chirping. The remote kill switch is a great feature and even works behind walls. It has a great range to it as well. I am a little disappointed in the charging system, as it will not put a positive charge to the battery until about 1/8 throttle. So if you let it run at an idle with the lights on for an extended period of time, it will start to drain the battery. Although I am still using the crap Chinese battery in it also. A better battery would definitely hold up longer. The full floorboards are a great safety feature, assuring you that your child's feet will not make contact with the tires. The choke is conveniently mounted on the handlebars, but I don't think that the plastic lever would take a lot of stress if your child was operating it. The handlebars are mounted in a good ergonomic position for the child as well.

Pros:

Remote kill switch
CVT Tranny
Available 7" wheels
Front and rear racks
Good torque, low and top end power
Working head and tail/brake lights
Low maintenance, Engine and tranny share the oil
Open K&N clamp on style air filter
Everything easy to get to
Grease fittings on most moving suspension parts
Great suspension with no bump steer

Cons:

No front brake
No backup starting system, electric only
Hub is not fixed to axle, it bolts against a sheet metal sleeve on rear axle
Charging system does not provide a charge to the battery until 1/8th throttle

I will be making an assembly manual for this quad this week. I will post a link to it here when I finish it. If you have any questions about this quad, please feel free to post.

Everything sounds good except 1 thing. It does not have a CVT tranny.

I apologize for the CVT mistake. I'm so used to calling automatics CVT's. This is an automatic but it is not a CVT. And no this is not made by Jetmoto it is imported by Jetmoto and is comparable if not exactly the same as the SUNL.

I bought TWO of these from a local place here in S.E. Georgia. They go pick up a truckload of them and bring them back to sell.

Anyway, I bought two of the 110's (so they claim--there is no lettering indicating it is 110 cc's) and both of them are exactly as you have explained.

*** CORRECTION *** On the JUG it says 107 cm/3 See Image Attached.

First I bought my son (5) one and then I went back and bought my daughter (7) one. After about a month... I'm guessing about 4 hours total ride-time, my son's quad broke down. He came running in with a BOLT and said "daddy this fell off". I thought it may have been just simple bolt holding part of the rack on.. but it wasnt. The chain was turning and so was the rear sprocket, but the axle wasn't. The bold he had handed me was ONE of THREE bolts that go through the collar on the rear axle and bolt directly into the threaded holes in the sprocket. One of the bolts was broken (still in the hole but sheared off) and the other was missing, and I of course had the third which was BENT and the threads had been stripped off. I have NO idea how this could have happened, but I work in a fab shop, so I found some bolts that fit perfectly (only put two bolts back in --runs fine).

Before I got the 110 for my son, I had bought the 70 cc version ($600), which was smaller but worked the same, but the engine seemed a little bigger. I kept it for about four hours, and I was testing it out before I let him ride, and while I was riding it, the throttle got stuck in the wide open position... but the throttle wasn't pressed. I got to looking around and found that the top of the carburetor (a cap where the fuel line or either the throttle cable comes in) had come unscrewed and had slid down the line, and I guess it was forcing fuel into the carb. Amazingly the guy I had purchased it from was coming by my house right then so I stopped him and told him what was happening, so he took it and I gave him an extra two hundred dollars for the 110 he was on his way to pick up.

Aside from these minor problems, I have had a weld to break on the back rack which rattles. Other than that, these are some excellent little bikes for kids. My son's is a little more stubborned to start, (turns over really slow compared to the other) but they both start up every single time --after choking them usually once. I have only charged the battery once on both of them, and sometimes it is two weeks they are sitting between rides. I've gotta say I could not have invested my money any better. Those name-brand bikes are great, but they've got some real competition now-adays, and it is ABOUT TIME. There is no way I could have afforded to pay 2000 dollars for one that runs as good as these little $800 bikes. BOTH of them (yes we've raced them) hold a top speed of 30 mph with the throttle screws backed out. They're really fun, but I may modify the shocks a bit.. no heavier than my kids are, they are really bumpy rides --even with the suspension adjusted for the softest ride.. the springs are really stiff. If anyone has any good ideas on how to do this lemme know.

And of course the Pics compared to the Grizzly 660. (dirty)

If anyone is thinking of purchasing one of this type and would like more information or more pictures, feel free to post/ask.

One of them shows where the weld and bolts broke.

I was told that these quads come with NO warranty unless you pay 400 dollars for it, hell thats half what I paid for the bikes. No thanks lol.

ALSO here is a pic of the Custom Tailpipe Tip that I fabricated myself to replace the Stock spark arrester for my 05' Grizzly 660.

Exhaust Tip Fabrication

After adding this I gained a noticable low end performance increase and it sounds like the beast it carries the name for. I smoke the polaris 800 Sportsman from 0-50 by about 3 1/2 lengths - then he walks away whereas before we were side by side until I ran out of throttle.

Yes you are right. They can be great bikes BUT you HAVE TO go over every bolt and locktite them wherever you can. I think that was your first problem with the bolts falling out of the rear sprocket.

mike,

Thanks for the input. I always keep loctite at the house, and as 2many said I loctite every bolt I can except for the ones that I need to take off or loosen for maintenance. I think I am going to replace those sprocket bolts that broke on yours with better quality ones and then put the blue stuff on them as well. All three bikes you have look nice, but 2many has you beat!

Not a problem man, and if anything else happens that requires any significant attention, I'll post it here, but my kids don't ride very much (about 2 hours every two weeks) so it may be a while ...LOL... anyway, glad to help.

P.S. look on top of the carb, there is a dome-shaped cap with a hose going into the center. Make SURE this is tight after every few rides, or lock-tite it also. If this thing comes unscrewed while running, the bike will be getting fuel as if you were holding the throttle all the way down (EVEN IF THE HANDLEBAR THROTTLE LIMITER SCREW IS SET--it will still get the gas)....Not good with a kid on it. When I said they'd go 30 mph, that is with MY big 195 lb *** on it, so there's no telling what it'd do with a 45 lb kid...

I also have a 88' Honda Four-Traxx 300 with only about 40 hours on it, but it hasn't been started in about 15 years (Well kept, though, in a moisture-proof steel building.) I get no spark to the plug, but haven't had time to shop around for a coil.
