I had heard (from other dealers, of course) that Canadian Tire refuses to service the Baja quads, so what do you do if you have a problem? (For those in the U.S., Canadian Tires is THE big hardware/automotive chain here in Canada.) And does anyone else on this forum know of anyone with experience with Baja, or where they come from specifically?

Canadian tire doesn't service their snowblowers, lawn mowers, garden tractors, or chain saws either. So I wasn't expecting them to when I bought the quad. I have heard "rumors" that some ct's do here in Edmonton.
I paid more for the ducar from a dealer that services them and now I wish I would have just have bought a cheaper quad from a retail store like I did with the Baja. The place that sold the Ducar no longer sells them as they have gotten a different brand of chinese quad now. They do seem to have the parts though for the ducar's.
When the quads need service I do it myself like I do with the Honda's I have. . I knew this going in and I tell this to people who ask me about my quads. If you are not mechanically inclined don't buy a chinese quad unless its from a real "dealer". You know one that has a store in a building, that stocks parts, and has an actual service tech. However be prepared to pay more because these guys have to charge more to cover overhead etc.

I posted this on another thread but it fits here too...

I just got a CoolSports 150
http://www.lightningatv.com/images/1206_022.jpg
The Blue one...
I got it home and off the truck, backed it up about 2 foot (to clear the truck) and went to put it into forward and no forward just reverse... After playing with it no reverse, no nothing... Took the linkage and spring off and something isn't right... I'll take it to them (Lightning) tomorrow (Jan 2)... I'm not happy right now... This bike is going to my son who lives Northwest of Austin... I don't have time to run up and fix it every other weekend... I guess will see how the service part of Lightning is...
I'll let you know how it all turns out...
I was looking at getting me the 250 CoolSport but I'll hold off for now...
Jan 02 POST
Well I took the Coolsport 150 to Lightning today and they were great,,, so far... I will call him tomorrow (Jan 03) at 1:00 to see what it's going to take to fix it... I'll post tomorrow night to let you know what he found and what it's going to take...
Jan 07
Well it was the shaft the lets the trans go from forward to reverse. Lightning found the part and are replacing it all for free. I'll let you know how things go with the ATV later?

Ok I will give a review on my purchase. Bought it online via buyatvsonline.com. I bought the coolsports 50/70. It arrive via R & L Carriers without incident and actually a couple of days earlier than expected. It shipped from houstion and I am in Virginia.
The only problem I had was no manual came with it. After figuring out what parts went where and getting them all tightened up, it looked really cool. By the way if you look at the parts book that came with it you will notice that it is a Hensim 70. And with that info was able to look them up online and find all the parts and dealers that could help me.
Now to xmas morning, went to fire it up and nothing, nada. Now mind you I have some mechanical and electrical automotive knowledge, but not an expert. So I turned to the vast knowledge of everyone in here to try and help me. Instead of posting my problems, I just searched and read the forums thoroughly and found out that there was a interlock between the brake lever and the starting. Sure enough holding the brake in and then starting it fired right up. All was saved.
It took about a day before my first problem. And that was a molex connector under the seat coming loose and causing the atv to shut off. It would run fine as long as you werent sitting on the seat, but soon as you sat down and started to go it would cut off. Found the plug, retaped it together and problem solved. Then, allthough I read the forums and heard about changing the plug, A7RTC, which in a champion is R9Y which can be bought at NAPA, and the oil which can be bought at any Advance auto store. I tightened all bolts, or so I thought. Forgot the axle bolts and sure enough they came loose. Put locktite on them and retightend all bolts.
To summarize, for the price $459 delivered, with a little patience and basic mechanical knowledge and doing your homework either in the forums here or anywhere online, they are a good buy. Dont think you are going to be able to treat them like a new car and just turn the key on and run, they take some maintenance and always check them over before riding.

Kid Atvs seems to be right on with RACEWAY. My investigation has to give them a thumbs-up and online with Raceway. I happy that we seem to have 2 great companies taking care of us slugs As always, we are loyal, but a rough bunch.
Also- Kymco and Eton....at least the last time I check are nearly the same price as the Big 4? My buddy has them and they seem to be high quality machines. He bought a Kymco 90 and it was about $700.00 more that my Redcat VX-80? However, they seem to be well built and take punishment.
Hey, keep them reviews up....every time I get on here, I see some quad I didn't know existed SEADAWG

Yes, SEADAWG, Kymco and Eton certainly do make a big deal about the fact that they are from Taiiwan and thus "different" from the Chinese quads. And indeed I did check this weekend while I was up at the cottage and my daughter's Arctic Cat DVX50 has "Kymco" stamped in a number of places. (This was a big suprise - I could have saved myself $500 or more by buying a Kymco, and have gotten the same quad!)
Anyway, I'm going to take my daughter's Kazuma Meerkat out to the local Eton dealer tomorrow, and see what kind of trade-in I can get on the new (2007) 4-stroke Eton Viper with reverse - wanna bet I get virtually nothing for it?

Actually, they already said they would, ostensibly because they want to use it as a comparison to show how much better the Eton's are!

Sir,
No doubt, they seem to be good quads. You guys must have seen them for better prices than me. The 90cc, four stroke cost my buddy $1,799.00, plus taxes, tags, helmet...he spent over 2k. What are you guys seeing them for at this time? SEADAWG
My REDCAT VX-80 was $900.00, but I don't think it is as good as the Kymco, but was way cheaper! SEADAWG

SEADAWG: They want $2399 Candian (about $2,000 U.S.) as a "show special", but they said the list is $3200!
For that money, of course, I expect the same quality as my Daughter's Arctic Cat, and keep in mind it has a reverse which the big 4 don't have in a 90.

Okay, we went out and bought the 2007 Eton Viper 4 stroke 90 with reverse today. Had a look at the one the dealer's kid had (a good sign), and it ran fast, looked good, shifted gears (fwd, neutral, reverse) with a neat little button on the handlebar, and had great clearance. A hig centre of gravity, however, so we bought the plastic (mylar?) wheel spacers, which will widen the little beast by 4" and should help a lot with stability. Rear tires are nice and wide, and we'll see how good the traction is. Should arrive from Alberta by the end of the week. (They had a black and yellow one here in Toronto, but we wanted Red.)
The dealer is serious, and also sells Kawasaki and Suzuki, and is also related to the Canadian Distributor.
Best of all, they took our 2004 Kazuma Meerkat in trade, so we have that off our plate as well.
Anyone have any modifications they would suggest? Any Eton fans out there?
