HOW CAN YOU TELL THE SIZE (50cc or 90cc)
#1
Hi...
Sorry if I am using the wrong terminology (I am the mother - and not very savy when it comes to 'toys')
My husband and I bought our daughter an ATV for Christmas. The dealer told us it was a 90cc, our reciept says it is a 90cc BUT we have been told by at least two people that have seen it since we brought it home that it looks like a 50cc.
Is there any way to tell what cc it is by the VIN number?? Or any other place on the motor??
Any help would be grateful and very much appreciated.

Probaly a Kazuma Meerkat. They make two versions of that model. A 50cc semi-auto and a 90cc auto, marketing to those wanting an automatic (a 50 auto can't get out of its own way). The 90cc is new for 2006, and the 50cc has been out for years. So just looking at it, most will think its a 50.
By rights, the 90 should be for older children. I saw a mini SuckL the other day in a flea market with a 110cc on it. This is getting way out of hand......

My brother bought his son a Sunl Chinese atv from Raceway Atv last March. His is a 90cc engine. Sunl or other companies that market these (I've seen many brands that all look the same) will put the 50cc, 70cc, 90cc, and now the 110cc engines all in the same exact framed machine. They all look exactly the same size wise and plastics, etc. So in other words it is possible what you have could be only a 50cc. On my brothers the way we could tell is on the engine somewhere (can't remember offhand where it is right now) it is stamped in millimeters the size of the engine displacement. If you do the conversion you should be able to tell what cc machine you have, that is if the one you bought has such a stamp on it. Hope this helps, Brian

IIRC, There should be a metric volume measurement stamped into part of the jug (the cylinder part with air vanes), eg., cm3 or ml or cc (1 cc = 1 ml and cm3 is just another way of saying cc, i.e., cubic centimeter or cm3) . The measurement should be preceeded by a number (e.g., 49, 72, 108, etc). The numbers are rounded off such that the preceeding would be a 50, a 70, and a 110, respectively. And for some more totally useless information, the number represents the amount of air, etc that the piston will displace as it travels from bottom dead center (bdc) to top dead center (tdc) or, put another way, the amount of space (volume) in the cylinder when the piston is at its lowest position (bdc - or, closest to the crankcase).
If you see a metic volume number on the block, that is probably not the size of your engine but the capacity of the crankcase.
Note to self: dont bable on after you answer the lady's question.
