certain amount of voltage to run?

battery was dead sunl90. so i put on charger a few days.the cheap one it came with, it tried to start it but it was cold about 45 to 50 degrees, would run a few seconds then die. cleaned the carb and raised the needle one notch. while i had it apart i made sure all the electrical connections were tight. the choke cable doesnt make the choke move, i pulled it and the butterfly valve doesnt move. any way i put it back together and it ran fine, for 5 minutes in the back yard. wont start now!!! the battery went dead in a minute while trying to restart it. so i put it back on the charger. now my ? if the battery is bad or wont hold a charge very long will it cause it to die like this and not restart. i thought it cranked over good enough to start it after it died, but quickly went dead. anybody have any thoughts on this? the tether kill switch is tight as all connections are. it seems to me its an intermintent type thing likes its getting spark then isnt. thanks
