Scared/Concerned Daddy

Yes, I know how you feel!
I just got my 8 year old daughter a little 70cc loncin quad this past fall and I'm usually totally worried about her the whole time she is riding. I put the throttle limiter screw in so she can only go about 15 MPH max, but still it's scary. I've been trying to teach her to be safe, but I'm new to ATVing myself (just got my own at the same time as her). The worst was actually when my bro and his stepson (also 8) came by and my bro said he didn't need the throttle limiter on at all (big mistake!!!). He was flying around over 35 MPH, completely out of control. I just about had a heart attack watching him fly over bumps and right beside a fence. He lasted about two mintutes without throttle screw in before he had to jump off because he was going to hit a post. Now, I won't ever allow a child to ride it without the throttle limiter in the right position. As a side note, my daughter does ride very safely. She never tries anything stupid (well not yet anyway. lol).

Be concerned, teach them right, and let them learn from their mistakes. I know cause I are one but boys are absolutly fearless/ stupid. Hell, I spent 20 some odd years breaking my body on dirtbikes, over and over!!!. Girls are more cautious. My 8 year old daughter has a Honda trx90 (new to her) and she shows so much more brains and common sense about riding it, than I probably ever will. Her first question was, where are the breaks??
My first question at 4years old was, can I jump that ditch on this????

Buy your kid all of the safety stuff, helmet and goggles, chest protector, neck protector, boots, gloves and even elbow pads if you can find em..Thats about all you can do besides making sure they aren't doing anything crazy or driving recklessly..As long as you are supervising its not too likely they will get hurt..

Got helmet and googles.Thought of a chest protector, have'nt priced those yet but I'm sure I'll get him some before we go ridin on some rough trails.
What the heck is a neck protector?
I took him to the church yesterday and let him ride in the field. That dont scare me as bad watch him goin maybe 20mph as it does seein him zippin around trees, tryin to jump the driveway, goin around the b.ball goal.
Probly what scares me the most is when he turns and I see a rear wheel raise off ground,I tighten the front shocks up some,so maybe that might help.
Dumbest thing I ever did was flyin down a trail at Locust Stake and the front tire hit a root stickin out, grapped the tire, put to the right and hit a tree head on.I flipped over the bars and landed on my back about 20' ahead. There were rocks all in the trail. The STUPID!! part was I was'nt wearin my helmet,it was strapped to the ATV.But I quickly put it on before I drove off.

Yeah I highly recommend the chest protector..It will help to protect them in case the atv should ever land on them in a rollover...The neck protector is just a piece of padding that straps to the top of the chest protector and takes up the space between the helmet and the shoulders..It can help prevent serious neck injuries..We have the type that just goes around your neck and fastens with velcro but I find that it ends up turning around backwards..I would get the type that fastens to the chest protector... Try a google search for sixsixone neck roll or neck nut.
