Hi, first post here. was wondering if someone could help me with my sons newly aquired 2002 RAPTOR hard start problem. I just cleaned and rebuilt the carb but no matter how i set up the adjust screws it is a huge undertaking to start. i think it may be the valve lash as once it starts it does run ok other thhan an errattic idle at times. i want to do the valve adjustment for maintenence reasons anyways; does anyone have a clearence spec? thx.

 

intake cold - 0.05 mm - 0.10 mm (0.002 in. - 0.004 in)

exhaust cold - 0.075 mm - 0.125 mm (0.003 in. - 0.005 in)

I assume that its hard starting with the choke on or off ??

 

thx very much for that. yes , choke doesn't seem to be consistent at all.
