how tight should a chain be a automatic atv? i tighten it once and now it might be to tight but not sure. my son was riding it last night after the adjustment the chain seemed like it was bucking or jerking every once and a while and clues please help.

I have the adjustment set where there is a tiny bit of slop in the chain. Enough to move the middle of the chain, between sprockets, up and down about +/- 1/4"-1/2". I find this to be perfect where there isnt any loose chain backlash or tight chain drag. Good luck.

You should have approx. two fingers worth of play. Another good trick is to take a wrench and stick it between the rear sprocket and chain, then tighten the axel, roll the bike forward and remove the wrench. That should give you the amount of play required.
