Desert Cat 90
#1
I have seen several that have posted that these engines are very similiar to the Polaris 90's.
I aslo have read that the earlier model predators were prone to water in the tranny. Are the new
Desert Cats prone to this same problem ? I am ready to purchase the Desert Cat and if anyone wants
to add their impression of the quad, it would be appreciated. I have read all this forum has to offer on the Desert Cat
and would like some updated info, if possible. Thank you, thank you very much !!!!!!!!

I never had problems with water in the tranny case itself. My son rides in water and mud where ever he ccan. The only thing is the belt housing is vented so if you go through deep water for an extended period of time the belt will slip. The DC90 is tough as nails. I dont think you will read any complaints here. The motor is the same as the pred 90 2 stroke. Great power and easily moded for more power. Awsome quad for the money.

probably what you are talking about are the stators. the early predators had problems with stators failing if you got them too wet. all of the 2 stroke mini quads have similar engines and their electrical systems dont like deep water or mud.

There is a vent on the cvt that will allow water and grime into the are with the belt, clutch and rollers. I am not aware of any problems other than belt slippage (in the tranny, hqr109 as usual is right about the stators). These scooter engines were not designed to get wet imo.

Ok, I have decided to wait on the four stroke dc90 that is coming out in late May. There are supposed to
be some new colors as well. Has anybody heard anything on the new 4-strokers ? Not much info to be
found on the new ones !!!!

My wife rides it and it fits her fine and will pull an adult up ANY incline. Other than ground clearance issues, it will go anywhere a full size adult quad will go.
To me, the 90cc four strokes are very, very underpowered. You fel like you are riding around with the parking brake on.

I'm with Illin on this one. Get the 2 stroker. We have the two stroke and it is a blast. Plenty of power
and no problems to really speak of at all. No problem with water or mud here either. Now if you go and
bury it yeah it might get into the stator and give you problems, but it is a kids quad not a 4X4.
Mud got everywhere this day and no issues at all. He was going through some 5-6" of water as well without
issue.
