DO NOT BUY OR EVEN CONSIDER a SunL ATV!!!!!!! If you can't afford one of the better ATV's (Polaris, Honda, Unison, etc.) then wait until you can. You will be throwing away your money and wasting alot of time! Take it from someone who was there...and now my son's SunL is in the junk yard after 3 months. Stay away from SunL - they are unsafe for any kid to ride. My son's SunL 110cc had cracks in the frame that needed to be welded after the first month - no jumping at all -, the trans had problems all the time and then finally the motor quit and was spitting oil out the breather tube on the back of the engine. I spent 5X more time working, checking and fixing the SunL then my son rode it.

Hi mustangman,
This thread is not about "Do I buy a sunl or not?" You already posted in this thread that you don't like sunL and had bad experience with yours.
I am having a chain issue right now and am looking for advice on that. I am not looking for advice on what quad to buy.
But thanks for the opinion.
Now if you have any ideas on the chain issue I am all ears mustangman.

Ride Report Sunday July 8th, 2007:

We went to one of our riding spots today. We took the Twister (buggy 150cc) and the SunL 110 quad. We arrived and I had to tighten the chain within minutes, chain coming off. The terrain of this spot is loose sugar sand trails in the woods. These trails are all ATV trails. I tightened the chain and it stayed on for about 15 minutes. Then it came off 5 or 6 times... We put it on the trailer and locked it to the trailer. So we put about 30 minutes of riding in on the quad before the chain just made us miserable. We then rode the Twister for another hour or more and came home.

So I now have questions... I have never owned an ATV, except the Raptor 50 which was shaft drive... When my KDX200 had a broken chain guide, the chain would come off. Got a new Fredette chain guide and the chain never came off again on my KDX.

Questions:

1. What do I need for this quad, a chain guide? Or a chain tensioner?

2. Do the big quads (japanese) come with chain guides or tensioners?

3. Is the chain itself the problem? I have a friend with the same quad, and he bought a DID brand chain, and said the chain problems went away. I imagine this chain that came on there is crap.

Any thoughts?</end quote></div>

need to replace the chain that will fix your problem,

Hi Bill,
Thanks for chiming in... So a crappy chain won't stay on well? I remember my friend who replaced his did not have to get a guide or tensioner, just a good quality chain to fix the problem.

Do ATV's normally have chain guides like dirt bikes do?

Thanks again Bill.

A bolt vibrated out holding the rear axle in alignment.

That would certainly make the chain not stay on.

I think a better quality chain would help too though.

I will keep everyon posted on this quad. Wouldn't start after washing it. Turns out water got into the spark plug boot... Let the water out and it started fine. At least that is one less problem. I bought a chain tensioner, now I have to fab up a way for it to fit. I will report on that too when done.

Everyone on here has told me sunl sucks... So I guess listen to them. I have not been super satisfied with mine. But it has not been a disaster either.

People say buy a Jetmoto from Raceway if you go chinese.

Then people say get a polaris predator 90 (2 stroke) if you can afford it or find a used one.

If I had it over to do again I would save my money and WAIT until I found one of these: (all used):

Suzuki LT80 2 stroke
Polaris Predator 90 2 stroke
A DRR whatever the heck that is (people say it is great)
Yamaha Raptor 80 4 stroke - a little weak, but at least it is a 3 speed
Honda TRX90 4 stroke
Kawasaki KFX90 4 stroke

What I saved in money I am paying for in frustration.

I think the problem with the chain coming off is to do with the motor mounts. The engine moves around to much and twists the front sprocket out of alignment. I made a front mount to help sturdy the engine and the chain seems to stay on better.

what size atv are you looking for? 150-250cc i would recommed hi bird, very few complaints, and are priced desent, you can pick one up from $850 shipped for the 150 , $900 for the 200, $1150 for the 250

stay away from rightway atv, go to www.sunljunk.com and see bad-good dealers

Update 8/29/07 Wednesday. +++++CHAIN UPDATE+++++
Ordered a new chain and it came today and we intalled it. I made the kids wrench with me. Never can get them doing that too early. We ordered a 94 Link 428 Chain, a Primary Drive brand from Rocky Mountain ATV for $15... What a difference! Chain is great! It stayed on for bumps, donuts, and jumps. Kids are very happy now! The Battery we installed from WalMart is still doing well. The charging System on this quad must be crap though, the headlight is so dim as to be useless. We don't night ride anyway. The plastic chain guard broke off. And we have to keep an eye on keeping bolts tight. BTW, Rocky Mountain has been Great! We use them and Dennis Kirk for dirt bike & Qaud parts. Both are really good parts suppliers.
