chest protection

How many people use football chest protectors for there kids when they ride. The chest protection that they sale at honda and places like that only protects if a rock or dirt flies up from the quad in front. It doesnt really help in case of a crash. I was just wondering if anyone used them. Also its real easy to hook a neck roll onto one of them.

ALL of us should be wearing protection EVERY time we ride. There are good roost deflectors and medicore ones. My son (13) and I use 'pressures suits' under our jerseys. They provide chest, shoulder, elbow, forearm and spine protection. Running into another similar size child in a football game is not the same as flying debris or people at 25-40 MPH. To say nothing of a 250-500lb quad roling over you. I know what that feels like...
Parents who do not require their children to use proper protection are training for a lifetime of 'it won't happen to me.'

It fits you like a jacket. It's made of nylon mesh with the protection I mentioned built into it. Some (like my Thor Impact Rig) have kidney belts too. You put it on over a t-shirt, zip it up adjust a couple of straps, cinch the kidney belt, and put your jersey or a loose fitting shirt , over it.
To look at them, you would swear they must be uncomfortable or restrictive; there are neither. Mine is very comfortable, I don't notice it as much as a regular outer roost protector, and being mesh, it breathes really well.
Several brands, there may be more...
Axo Protector Jacket
EVS Ballistic Jersey
Fox Launch Suit
SixSixOne Pressure Suit
Thor Impact Rig
They run from $110 to $200 depending on which one, youth or adult, and where you buy.

I wear a Fox Airframe Roost/Chest protector..... It has large padded shoulder caps like a football or hockey set. It has saved me on a couple of occasions. Just two weeks ago I cased a double jump, my hand slipped off the grip and a smashed my chest onto the front break reservoir. Had I not been wearing it, I would have seriously bruised to broken one of my upper ribs.....I won't ride without one.

Well my thing is should I care about what the other riders at the park thinks, or should I protect my kids as much as possible. Sure they would look cool and would be protected from the small dirt clogs coming at them every so often with a roost protector. But if they ever needed chest protection I would prefer them have something a little thicker than 1/8 inch of plastic painted with a cool logo. Plus there is alot of companies that make some really cool colorful football chest protectors that dont even look like the old school chest protectors. oh and to answer my own question. I'm going to protect my kids as much as possible and not care about the other riders at the park. Now when they get older they might not want to strap on a football protector to ride an atv. But for now thats the way I think I'm going to go. Also the FB protector cost more. So its not a going cheap thing. Its just I wish that they put a little bit of padding in these things...

Why not a football helmet as well? You can get one with a full face guard too.
An expensive youth helmet has a pump up bladder inside, so it must be better than an mx helmet!
Whatever, as long as you feel good about it, they're your kids.
BTW, Pro Rider, what do you wear??

And wearing a football chest protector for everyday atv riding is about the same as wearing a racing preasure suite. (Makes me laugh) for everyday riding. Bet your the talk of the riding area.
