04 Predator 90cc wont spin starter
#12
My son's 2005 Predator 90 had the same problem - starter would click but the motor wouldn't turn over. I was able to take the front clutch assembly apart without using a gear puller. I bought the factory service manual and it did not mention using a gear puller. The hardest part was holding the clutch assembly while loosening the clutch bolt. I ended up holding it with a strap-type oil filter wrench.
As mentioned above, the needle bearing assembly was gunked up. I cleaned it with teflon-safe carb cleaner and lubed it lightly with chain lube and so far it is working great.

The flywheel puller for Polaris Predator, Scrambler & Sportsman 90cc is listed below. Very handy to have this puller if you don't want to screw up your flywheel. I have one and it works great.

This is a very common problem and a common tool that people need for this job. There will be many other people who find this forum with the same question. It's nice to have the resolution listed or the tool needed listed when it's all said and done. Many forums never show the resolution to the problem in the end.

Thanks for posting the puller info. I was just into my sons yesterday, wish I would have read this first. His issue was the kick starter sticking and would not come back up on its own. There is a bushing it pivots on that needed greased. Ignoring it would ruin the bushing eventually.
Wish I had cleaned the starter drive while I was in there now, but I'll know what to look for in the future.
Also his belt is down to .657 wide, .625 is the min width, anything I should be getting for this besides a new belt?

Yes, this is a very common problem. Of all tools that are a 'must' have, the Flywheel Puller and Flywheel Holder are very handy. So many people need those two items (or they know someone who needs them.)
Good luck

Yes it is. This handy 27-1.0 Left Hand puller is probably the most popular flywheel puller in the world. It fits more motors than any other puller known to man. LOL Seriously... It fits so many motors of all brands it's not even funny.
