Default predator 50

I just got a 2004 predator 50. I am not getting spark most of the time. Once in a while when I am cranking it I get one spark. I have tried moving where I am grounding the plug to while checking and always get the same result. I tried jumping a wire from the pos. side of the battery to the coil to bypass everything and that didn't help. What do you think?

Check the spark with a spark tester. My sons quad had the same problem. I checked the spark with a spark tester and the light was very dim, put a plug on it and it would only arc out once in awhile. It was the stator. I would not create enough juice to arc out.

Thanks for the reply. I already know that it isn't sparking most of the time and when it is, it looks pretty weak. I never really considered the stator but it makes sense. But, how do you know if it is the coil or the stator? The coil is considerably cheaper to replace too. Can I get a multimeter on there somewhere and see how the stator is doing?

Kyforeman gave a nice link to look at and if you still can't get anywhere from that please let me know and we can go through it.

I went to that link and got all exited but my coil is alot different than the one shown. I do not get continuity through the plug wire on anything on that coil though. I changed my air gap to .025" and that didn't help. It was at about .035".

I still need to check the stator but the coil is haunting me. I should just get one and try it but it takes almost 2 weeks to get parts ordered. I'd like to just order the right part the first time.

OK i just went to the garage and checked my sons quad.

Coil:

Cap to a ground is 10.48K

White/Blue wire to cap is 10.48K

Stator:

White/Red wire to ground .441K

Black/Red wire to ground is .891K

Also make sure your ignition switch is working ok, my sons if turned all the way to the on position will not work right.

Let me know if this helps

Shawn

do you need to pull the gas tank to get to the end of that stator connection?
