Default 70cc Chinese Quad Problems

Hi I was wondering if anybody had any info or experience with this problem. My sons quad never had a problem before. Then it started to run a little rich (you could smell it) and has progressively gotten worst. The plugs will come out just looking black. Sometimes you would have to clean it just to get the quad running again. Now it is at the point of it barly starting if it does at all. When i do get it going it is running way to rich. I try to set the carb but it seams like it is not really doing to much. Try this for about 5 minutes and it would not start again. Pulled out the plug it is black (it was a brand new plug). Maybe the wrong plug? (I don't think so...) I am at a loss. Any and all help would be great; please.

i'd replace the plug, ngk c7hsa and do a valve adjustment before getting to excited, set the intake at .004 and the exhaust valve at .006. the valve adjustment should fix the hard starting problem

Thanks for the video. He makes it look rather easy. I guess I will give it a shot. If this will help the hard starting. Then what do I do about it running to rich?

Default 70cc Chinese Quad Problems

Well here is an update. What i did was take off the carb and clean it. It was full of junk. Put it back on and the quad started and ran no problem. Sons drove it for about 15 minutes and the bike died and would not start again. Removed plug and grounded it and found out it has NO SPARK now. So needless to say I am back to the drawing board trying to figure out this problem now. Any ideas from anyone?

Did you adjust the valves yet? No joke it will run like new. Ours had the same problem and my buddy adjusted the valve in like 10 minutes. Started and ran like new again.

No I did not adjust the valves yet. I figured after I cleaned the carb it ran so good what was the point of adjusting them. My problem now is no spark. I don't think adjusting the valves will help with that. Or will it?

I dont know how much you troubleshoot stuff everyday but I know as soon as I think I know whats wrong and am dead set on working on that assumption I end up finding out it was something else.

If his quad has alot of hours on it I bet its the valves, especially when you say it became harder and harder to start over time.

Other than changing the spark plug (whic hI bet you have done) is the battery the original if its a few years old? My sons battery showed charge but didnt have enough power to kick over the engine. New battery solved the problem after I and the dealer were dead sure it was the starter....

I am not saying you are wrong but I still think that if I adjust my valves right now that I will still not have any spark, and that is my only problem right now.

After I cleaned my carb it started really easy. Just like it did when it was new. It was not starting easily before because the carb was full of junk. It won't start right now because it has no spark. So i will have to trace the electrical problem it has right now. It is probably a loose wire somewhere as it was running and now it has no spark.
