I am somewhat familiar with atvs, no expert at all, I am working on a kids atv, no model number other than atv-109, no brand name, the kind you get at a swap meet.

anyway with a fully charged battery, up on a stand , when i hit the starter buttong it spins the starter but not the motor, took off the magnito/stator cover or whatever its called and there is a chain that goes aroudn the starter gear to a flywheel and it just spins that fly wheel, i can turn the stator and it will turn the motor somewhat but then wants to somewhat spin back , like its winding up or something.

so any clues on how this works? is there something electrical that engages the fly wheel to spin the motor when the starter turns it or does it sound like something broken? i havent takin anything off yet, didnt want to go that far if i didnt have to and being its generic i will never find any tech support on how it works
