Question about Hi-bird 250
#1
Hi. I have a used hi-bird 250 I have gotten it to start and drive really great but starting out in 1st gear is a pain. I have to ease the clutch out while giving it alot of gas.
The chain seems to jump around in the gearbox and make alot of noise sometimes stalling the engine. Once it is going and is in 2nd gear everything is smooth sailing.
I am at the bottom of the dipstick on oil could that be the problem? Does the engine oil also provide oil for the gears?
I see a small chrome colored slotted cap on top of where the gears are, I am wondering what that is for.
Also what is the best kind of oil to use in these chinese engines?
Thanks in advance to any help I may get here.

Is the clutch slipping? It sounds like your chain may be too lose and needs tightening using the two bolts adjusters at the rear axle! The oil would not be a factor and would suggest a good 15w40.

I stopped by the local dealer and got some reccomended atv oil to put in it.
I tightened the chain semms to have about 1/2 maybe a bit more play in it when u push/lift up should it be tighter. I had originally thought that the chain itself moved onto other gears like on my mountain bike but now I see that it is on 1 sprocket and there is internal gearing.
After tightening it seems a bit better but not much, maybe it needs to be tighter?
