I just bought an older Yamaha Champ 100cc for my 6 year old. I paid next to nothing and it's pretty much bomb proof. It has a throttle limiter and a semi-auto, 4-speed trans. It's mellow enough for my son to put-put around the yard, and powerful enough to toss me around. It did some trails last weekend and wasn't bad in the mud, thanks to the fat tires.

I've seen quite a few for sale and parts are still available all over the net and eBay.

 

What kind of quad are you looking for - sport quad, trail quad or utility quad.

Ive seen a few Grizzly 125s and they seem like very capable machines.

My son is a 95lb 8 year old and he rides my older Honda 200 Foutrax around with ease. Its a utility wheeler and isnt fast....but its great on the trails.

 

More towards the sports quad as our ranch is flat and i've started making tracks, jumps, etc.

I also have a Honda TRX200d Fourtrax (92') but needs a lot of work. I broke the bolt stud that holds the carb insulator on the cyclinder head as i was trying to replace it as the insulator was cracked. My father law and i made of mess trying to extract the broken stud. This along with master cylinder problems, brake shoes, lack of power, etc. makes this a longer project and a greater investment. I believe in the long run the better investment in buying a decent newer used quad.

 

Hey Guys, yeah that's my boy. He was 9 doing that . The pic really doesnt do it justice. That table top was huge. the bike looks good but runs even better. Its ridiculously fast. I'll youtube some video of me ripping up and down my street doing wheelies. I think its been a few weeks since i pissed the neighbors off.

 

Yeah the TRX200D is a nice little machine but its not suited to what your wanting to do and its a cheap quad - I gave $700 for mine in perfect condition so putting any decent money in it would likely be a waste.

 

It's funny. My wife mentioned to her best friend that we were in the market for a small quad for our daughter. She apparently bought a quad for her daughter years ago (her daughter is now 16) so she could ride at her grandfathers ranch on the weekend. It's been in storage for about 6-7 years cuz she out grew it and it wasn't running well before they parked it. She has no idea what brand it is but thinks its the size of my son's LT80. She's giving it to us and plans to dig it out of storage in the next 2 weeks.

Anyhow, i'm crossing my fingers that it's bigger than the LT80. But, even if it's same - you can't beat free.

 

Cool....could be anything.....maybe a Yamaha Breeze 125 or something. Im actually intrigued.

I was just going to suggest a Suzuki LT160 for your girl..but free is better..

 

We final received the youth quad from my wife's best friend this weekend and i wished we hadn't. It's one of those quads that you pay $299 at a local hardware store (which actually is where she bought from).

I worked on all weekend, cleaned out the carb and lines, etc. but no go. the things is so cheap, i hated putting gas in it.

Anyhow...........looks like i'm back on the market for another youth quad or possibly a buggy (depends on which way the wind is blowing).

P.S. .....I also discovered that my wife made a deal for the quad too. Apparently I was to work on a Honda 98' TRX300 EX that was given to her daughter (apparently the motor froze.....i haven't torn into yet) and get it up and running. I don't have to pay for parts, i'm just the free labor. I prolly would have done it anyway cause she's a great friend to my wife and spoils my kids but DANG!!!!

 

If by buggie you mean a any of the Chinese branded ones.....my advice is stay away. I have one.....huge turds of mass proportions.....atleast the couple Ive been around anywho. Underpowered.....overweight.....not at all capable machines.

Now my ATV/MC mechanic is a Carter dealer.....those buggies RIP.....but they are almost 3x the money - in this case I wished I would have spent it.

Is the China wheeler a 4 stroke or 2 stroke? Surely running you could atleast peddle it for $250 or so (thats what I got out of my used 4 stroke 110cc China wheeler).
