Complete Newb...shopping for my kids!

Hey all...new to the forum... new to four wheelers. Need some answers!!
I've been looking for a 50 for my son who is 3 going on 4. Very hard to come by. I stopped at the Yamaha dealership and the Honda dealership today...both telling me they don't make them any more due to the age restrictions etc etc.
I see the Giovanni atv's...but not sure how they work? They don't sell 50's...but not sure if the 110 4 strokes are the same as a 50?? Or if I'm way off. A video of a 110 on youtube looked pretty big.
Just looking to get my son started on something reasonable. He's had the wal mart yamaha for the past year and has done very well. Want to upgrade and get him on a gas machine.
Any suggestions or knowledge of the Giovanni's (or something similar) would be very much appreciated.
Thanks everyone!!

There has been some hassle from the feds about lead content and kids under a certain age. Most of the big brands are not currently selling a 50cc because they don't want to be stuck with a bunch of atvs the gov won't let them sell. there are still good quality used quads out there, and I think Can Am and Eton are still selling there 70cc quads, which are more appropriate for your little one. I would say look to those or go used, as the Japanese 50's are practically indestructable, and Polaris has a good machine as well.

Those 90s are a bit big for a 3/4 year old though. the Polaris Predator 50 is perfect, as well as any of the Japanese 50's or even the 70's as I mentioned above. The venerable Suzuki 80 might work sizewise, anything you buy will need governed down and close supervision with one that young. Technically they aren't suppposed to be on a 70 and under class until 6 I believe.

gilby12,
I would like to suggest some useful information in determining your child's ability to safely operate an ATV http://www.atvsafety.org/downloads/pya.pdf. By most standards, a 3-4 year old may lack several key fundamentals. Careful consideration should be given.
As for your post, most of the Chinese manufacturers are using 110cc engines in place of the 50-90cc in the mini chassis. I'm not sure that anyone currently markets a 50cc youth. Since the 110cc mini supermach listed on our site is consistent with the sizing of the Giovanni, the specs may help you determine its suitability.
If and when you determine your son is ready, it may be worthwhile to take a look at Supermach. We give them a 12 month warranty and they are the most supportive company we have dealt with for "budget" ATVs. If quality is a higher factor than price point, I feel Eton and Linhai are great choices. However, Eton is only offering the 90cc 4 stroke this year, and Linhai Youth ATVs will not be available till at least July-Aug. But, as other members have suggested, there are many smaller variations still available in the used market.
Regards

My 2 cents....3 going on 4 is a bit young for a gas quad (gas to go...have to put the brake on to stop).
At 5 years old we bought our son a used Suzuki LT-A50....he loves it and we have had absolutely ZERO problems with it.
Our daughter is 3 1/2 and of course she wants to do everything her brother does. We bought her a Little Tikes battery operated quad and she really enjoys it....and it's safe(er). Stops when she lets off the trottle.
Anyway...to each their own. Best of luck to you, keep your boy safe.

I agree with the last 2 posts.
The atvsafety institute standards are spot on IMO.
3/4 is a lil young but with the expierience he has with the wally quad it could be fine.
The Suzuki LT50 is a small machine in size and may be a good choice.
Good luck and have fun.

Appreciate the responses guys!! Thanks for all the info. Ya, I'm a little hesitant with his age/size... My buddy brought his 4 year old daughter over this past weekend and she struggled with the walmart yamaha cause she'd never been on one. My son, just turning 3 in March, looked like a pro next to her. Power slides and through the mud and over the mounds of dirt. (proud father!) After watching him closely and what he does, I felt like a step up to a gas would be ok. Certainly would never put my lil man in harms way. I grew up riding motocross...so i'm not completely naive to the scene...just more so four wheelers in general.
I'll also say that the speed of the yamaha is 5mph...and most gas machines i've seen say you can throttle them down to 5mph...so then it becomes a matter of braking more than anything.
I'm a little concerned about the 50cc being a 110cc motor...but with the safety tether and the remote kill switch...would it be manageable?? Anyone know where I could gte my hands on one of the suzuki 50's?
