Default lt80 wire id

hey, on a 2000 lt80 there is a seperate coil and cdi. My question is the function of the cdi with regard to the yellow/green and black wires that enter it. The black I know goes to the brake switch. The yellow/green goes to the starting switch. I'm not sure what function the cdi plays in these circuits though.

Default weak spark

I will add that I have basically no spark and am trying to find a cause. On my machine the previous owner put on a different start / kill switch assembly, and I am not sure the wiring makes sense. The yellow/green wire is connected to ground, which doesn't make sense to me. The brake switch wiring appears to be correct, however, if it is fed somehow through the cdi via the yellow/green, then the whole circuit would be shot as it is just grounded. I wonder if the yellow/green is supposed to be fed from the hot/on side of the kill switch. From the wiring diagram it appears this way, but the only available wiring diagrams do not seperate the coil and cdi, as they were made in later years.
