LT80 shock disassembly
Does anyone know the easiest way to take springs off shocks so I can re-powder coat them? Also has anyone ever cut 1 coil out of spring to see if it would soften them up?Could that be done to the rear shock to lower ride height?I'm just needing to get it as close to the ground as I can because we race them on a flat track where there are no jumps just sharp switchback turns and some barrel and pole rodeo races. Thanks for your help.

Can't help you with the disassembly, but cutting a coil off will NOT make it softer, that will actually make it stiffer, reducing the spring length without reducing the diameter will cause it to feel stiffer, and reduce travel as well. There are a few shocks from other mini quads that will fit, and have more travel, I know several on this forum have done that. Hopetully Jack (LT80 on the forum) will see this post and let you know.
And give it more than a few hours for a response......sometimes it takes a day or so to get an answer !!

To entertain you while you wait for a real answer:
Way, way, way back in the day peeps used to heat their auto springs to get the desired sag ... cheap lowering ... Dad never did figure out what happened to that Packard .. a little too much & too bad, so sad .. LOL .. definitely not modern tech suspension practice
I've thinned ATV springs before to make them somewhat progressive but not for an LT80 .. same deal ... a little too much and it's shot .. best to get a good purpose built shock:

This won't help a bit but I can't resist, it's my vid for painting Banshee springs .. .. I think Banshee & LT80 springs have a lot in common .. LOL
