Default KFX80 eletric starter issue, need some ideas.

Hello,

I own a 2004 KFX80 and started the machine after sitting for two months. When I shut the engine down and attempted to start it back up, the electric starter was sticking. I had to physically disconnect the battery, even though the ignition switch was turned to the 'off' position, and the starter button 'depressed'.

I'm unsure if the issue is with the ignition switch, starter button or both.

Has anyone experienced this with their machine before? If so, any ideas and/or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thank you,
IronBear

Your saying that the starter kept cranking(spinning) and you had to disconnect the battery to get it to stop?
If so, when you re-connected the battery, did it still spin?
I'm thinking ohm the starter button.

Sounds like the starter solinoid has stuck shut/closed inside. Normally it would only close when it gets power from the starter button to make it click shut. But they do arc inside and can weld themselves together, causing the engine to crank until the battery dies or is disconected

Yes the starter was engaging even with the key switch set to the 'off' position and the starter button 'depressed. I had to disconnect the battery to stop the cranking.

When I reattached the battery cable, the starter started to spin. Like beyondupnorth states, the solenoid could be stuck causing the issue. I've seen this for myself on the old Fords with the solenoids mounted to the fenders. Not sure if I should replace the starter or not.

Yup, I agree. Prolly solenoid.
Good chance the starter is OK.
