Is the throttle cable itself sealed? If not, you could always shoot some wd40 in it to see if that helps any. Old school fix, so not sure if it will work with the new cables.

I'd like to see a pic of the rider on the machine.

I would not mess around with the throttle springs on a kids atv. If the throttle gets stuck he is not going to know what to do.

Not sure how well your machine fits your little one but one thing i did to make my little one more comfortable when riding. Got a spare set of foot rests off ebay. cut them down so i only had the base part (front and back that connect to fenders were cut off). Then i sandwiched a 2x4 between the stock foot rests and my cut up one's and bolted them together raising the foot rest 2-3 inches. Made a huge difference on how well she could maneuver the machine. I put my little one on hers when she was 3 as well and now she is almost 4 and just loves to ride and is very good at it. She has only had 1 accident the day she got it she spooked herself and ran into the side of the house. No damage done to anyone or anything. But this also prompted me to order a child's chest and spine protector

what "lt80" was getting at is that to be safe, you need the proper size machine for the child, heck i can screw 2x4's or blocks to my truck gas and brake pedal so a 4yr old could reach all the controls, but does it mean they should?

i am guilty of doing the same, my kid was 3 on his lt80, but with the throttle screw limited to the point where just enough throttle to engauge the clutch, and i was walking next to him.

Will not disagree about sizing the machine for the child. I'm the same way have the limiter screwed in to a reasonable speed. But since every kid is different no matter how small the machine is u may need to tweak it. My girl could fit the machine and touch when seated but because the width of the seat she looked uncomfortable and I noticed that sometimes her leg would hit the down pipe. Now with the foot rests raised she is well away from the pipe and it gives her more control.
Just looked up a lt80 and that it a fair size machine. Bigger than what my little one has and looks like it does not use the plastic foot rests like the imports do so scratch that idea.
