Do the majority of these little quads like polaris, can am, arctic cat, bombardier use the same engine? I think it is from the gy6 engine family? Which is also found on numerous other things like scooters and such.

 

Somewhat,as the the gy6 engines are Chinese, some are from mainland China,probably over a couple hundred different manufacturers, others are from Taiwan,but then you have Aeon and Eaton brands thrown in also. Plus some from from South Korea,then the Japanese brand names(if any are actually made in Japan anymore). A lot of people have been finding out "generic" parts such as stators,cdis,crank shafts,etc may not work on their machines. I know it's hard to resist a 30 buck stator on ebay versus a guaranteed one for their machine that may be a 100 bucks or more at other places.
