Place your thumb over the air cleaner intake tube. This helps pull fuel quicker into the engine.Once started and warm, most will restart ok. Electric chokes on these models suck. If that doesn't help check the easy stuff first such as spark, good fuel supply to the carb.If none of this helps might be time for a compression check. Should show a minimum of 115 psi to run right according to the manual.

Sounds like that's the problem.. New top end needed, plus always check that the rod and crank bearings feel ok as you turn the rod around after the top end is removed. No up and down play allowed on the rod!! Plenty of top end kits on ebay.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Top-end-rebuild-kit-cylinder-set-52mm-78-5mm-Polaris-Sportsman-90-2004-/331309238113?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4d2391c761&vxp=mtr

That's just for the pistons on these sites along with Cheap Cycle Parts. Polaris sells the piston, rings, pin, clips separately. When you add it up along with head and base gaskets, boring labor, cheaper to just get the blame kits. Stupid I know..
