I did check the gap and it was around .025” which I believe is what was spec’ed, but I can’t remember where I found that.

Looks like this one may have the correct wire colors, though it’s hard to tell from the picture. The description says it fits the mini cobra 50.

0.025" seems a bit wide, though I can't say I have ever adjusted one on the Chinese 2 stroke. I know Honda 200 engines were very critical on that gap, I had a Big Red that would only run on the absolute minimum. I would double check your info if you can. Annoyingly I have a workshop manual for a quad with one of those engines, fairly comprehensive, but the one thing it doesn't give is that air gap.

Well I pulled the stator to clean it and check the readings again off the bike, here’s what I found:

White/Red to black : 8.6 K Ohm
Black/Red to black: .85 K Ohm
Yellow/Red to black: 1.7 Ohm
White to black: 1.7 Ohm
Ground: 0 Ohm

Not sure why the difference in readings from before when it was on the bike, but regardless they look out of spec. This was the closest thing I could find for a repair manual, I assume my readings should be similar:

Again, any reason to not replace the stator do you think? Seems to be the problem, or at least a good place to start.

Thanks again for yor help a Merryman, I sure owe you a cold
one!

I repeat "I've never found ohming out stators to do much good." So I'm not surprised if the readings differ. It is whether they produce volts when spun on the starter. As your trigger coil doesn't seem to, you need a new trigger coil. If all you can get is the unit, you need the unit.

Copy that. I just ordered a new one, we’ll see if that fixes it. Thanks again!

I used the stator from amazon above and that fixed it. I’ve since had issues with the kill switch on the back so I took that out and soldered and used heat shrink on the wires and it’s been fine since.

Id go through all your wiring and kill switches really thoroughly first, they seem to be pretty easily disconnected or damaged and then you’ll get the same no spark condition.

Yea I have 2 of the exact same mini cobra 50’s
1 works fine the other has no spark
so far I’ve swapped ignition, coil, kill switch on bars & on teather rectifier and cleaned the pick up coil
i was trying to avoid pulling the flywheel to get to stator
beacuse id have to buy a tool
but I think I have no choice only thing left is stator
thanks for any input

I didn’t have much luck testing my old stator but replacing it fixed the problem. The flywheel puller is pretty cheap, like under $20. Luckily I had one that fit from one of my dirt bikes.
