Yes, looks like the black coil must be a trigger, it is just an odd size/shape for a trigger coil. Wiring colours are distinctly unusual. I have a feeling Minarelli clones have odd wiring colours too, as do some GY6 engines. Wonder why it has two earths to CDI, and as I wrote above, they don't need a kill wire, as turning the battery power off kills the spark, but I have come across kill wires before on DC stuff.

When I got this atv the cdi was missing but the wires on the harness are 6 pin 4x2 type with colours as mentioned above. Is it possible that the pin format could be different? If the coil wire or trigger wire were on wrong pin could that cause my problem? Spark but not fire.

Could be, pinouts do vary. Honda 250s are AC CDI but use a different pin out to identical looking Chinese bike AC CDIs. A lot of new CDIs come with pin out diagrams, and you need to check where each wire comes from on the bike and if it corresponds to the pin out on the new CDI. Very rare that a bike won't run if it does have a spark, but not a good enough one, though.

Thx again merryman. Really appreciate the time you put in to answer my queries. Currently i'm having difficulty knowing what the pin format is on the cdi so I can match with the harness plug.

New cdi installed. Still no change although when I say have spark(earlier posts) I think I have too much spark. Ie it appears to be sparking buzzing constantly while cranking. This doesn't seem right as it should be sparking per revolution I believe. Could this be a faulty pick up coil ? Have
ordered another magnetto stator. Will advise outcome at later date.

Suzuki LT50s seem to be sparking all the time like that, I assume it is an optical illusion. I suspect you are on the wrong track and your problem is somewhere else. What compression have you now? The original 70psi was a bit low. Have you tried starting it without the exhaust being fitted?

Exhaust is clean as blew compressed air thru while changing rings. Compression still the same. Should still run at 70 psi.??? Further reasoning why stator at fault is that trigger VAC to ground while cranking is 30VAC

That would indicate it is a Suzuki LT80 style magneto/CDI hybrid. However Suzukis don't have a pos wire to ignition, the "trigger" works as both power and trigger coil, magneto style. Are you sure someone hasn't bodged it up, trying to make a DC CDI set up out of a Suzuki style ignition system? Is that red wire from CDI to ignition switch, part of the original loom, or an afterthought?

I'm fairly certain that the red wire is part of the loom...runs from key switch via relay and rectifier to the 6 pin connector.

Yes, that does look like a factory loom. Beats me, pity someone with an identical bike hasn't found this thread. Checking against an identical machine that is working, can fix things when all else fails.
