CC, IF that is what you want to do, I can't stop you. I do want you to know that the Raptor 80 is the worst mini atv out there. It will have the quality and reliability, but your kid will be crying after he is left by everyone else. Please take a look at something else. IF you have to have one, The manufacturer of that machine makes the same machine but calls it something else. I think it is "FireStar". Look on E-Bay and you will see one from time to time.

cc1999, I'm afraid you won't find a decent reliable quad (one made by a major manufacturer) in kids size with shaft drive. There is nothing wrong with a chain drive, cheap to maintain, you can change your gear ratios for power or speed, never had a lick of trouble with my old 87 LT80, put a new chain on it every few years, not one problem. Ever priced a shaft or ring and pinion for a shaft drive? a buddy of mine had a Yamaha Champ 100, rear end went out, cost him 400 bucks for parts, a sprocket and chain is about one tenth that much. So I would say, find a quad you like, fits the kid good, and is reliable, and you won't be sorry. That ancient front end on the Yamaha 80 will shake your kid right off the seat, and there are much better motors out there, too.
