Yamaha Delivers a Cannondale Replacement

I wouldn't choose a Quadracer today over a Z400 simply because of limited parts availability and lack of aftermarket support. The LT250R is no slouch and would easily run and hide from a Z400. The Z would have the edge in handling.

I hate to break the news to you but the good old days have clouded your judgement. I am 39 Years old, and the old quads were nice but right now in quads is the good old days! What a selection! When those old 2 strokes came out the door they were no faster than todays quads. The old quads you see racing today are nothing like the quads that rolled off the assembly line. We have a much better selection and I hate to break it to you but a stock Cdale would dust a stock 250R. Go to the races, basically stock cdales keep up with full race 250R's except at the highest level. Those full on race 250R have little parts left from the original 250R. The 250R was and is a great quad but we got some pretty nice rides coming out the door right now, DS 650, Predator, Raptor, LTZ/KFX 400, KFX700, Gas Gas, Cdales(well not any more) and now the new YFZ450, For quite a few years you would have been absolutely correct but I hate to break it to you in the last few years it has been a great time to be a Quad enthusiast. RIGHT NOW ARE THE GOOD OLD DAYS!

these sure are the good old days! Well done Yamaha!
This quad looks like a sure fire winner, but it aint no 'dale. I bet the frame builders are working overtime getting a YFZ frame replacement ready right now. Steel frame and only 350 lbs! How many of those frames are gonna break you think? LOL. How many broken 'dale frames you ever heard of? 2 or 3? I'm not saying the 'dales were better, but that Yamaha still hasn't gone all the way. Maybe honda will step up now. Maybe not. LOLOL

There is a decent selection of new sport quads but they really don't offer that much (if any) performance over what was available in the 80's. everybody on this forum forgets, just because the new 4-strokes have 400+ cc's doesn;t mean they offer any more performance over a 250cc 2 stroke.
Top speed, who cares. Show me a 400cc 4-stroke that does 70mph? The 250R, Quadracer, adn Tecate-4 all did right at or very close to 70. Plus they were quick and responsive to ride.

rockrider - You need to find that rock and crawl back under. Most sport quads today have a top speed between 68-75MPH. Z400, Raptor, Banshee, Cannondale, VForce, Predator. There are only 2 real 400cc sport quads made today.

first off cannondale did make a race quad. my son ran a moto for 6 months just like it came off the show room floor. the only 250 r around here to ever beat that moto had $ 25,000 in it and the guy runs the A division at the nationals. as far as the new yamaha goes, anybody wanna buy a race ready sparks built 440 ex cause its up for sale so we can get the new yammie.
