A Question for dale owners
#1
Ok I was wondering if anyone has installed wheel spacers on thier dale and ended up breaking or bending thier rear axle?I just installed a set of plus 5 ezfits that have stud extenders. I ran a motocross track last week and was hitting the jumps as hard as I could and at the end of the day the bolts were tight and the axle straight. I know dales were built for abuse but how much stronger are thier axles compared to Honda(which I have bent many of those axles)or other makes.
Another question is I have noticed my dale stubornly shifts into 3 on occasion after I changed to amziol gear oil. I switched back to mobil one and it seemed to help it a lot. Anybody notice a difference in gear lube?
Lastly ,I switched over to the evans coolant and I noticed in the hot weather occasionally my cooling fan runs for about five minutes after I shut the wheeler off. Its not overheating but I find it really annoying when the fan is running while your sitting on the trail trying to talk to someone and they ask why the loud fan is still running. Since the computer turns the fan on I am assuming the ECM is still powered up after shutdown but it has never drained my battery dead. I was just unplugging the fan connector when I shut it off and plug it back in when we take off again but I am thinking of installing a waterproof relay that powers on/off with ignition and uses the ecm signal to activate the relay.
I will email any dale owner with an answer a video of me jumping at Dyracuse atv park. PM if you like .

I have noticed the stubborn shifting into 3rd gear also. I made mention to the dealer while it was in for warranty to see what they could find and they said nothing was wrong. Although after I got my speed back the problem went mostly away, I don't know what kind of oil they put in it though.
I was told that the ECM shuts its self off after about five minutes of the key being turned off, not sure though.
If you read the directions for the diagnostic software it does tell you that you have a limited time to communicate with the ECM with the key turned off though.

I've not put spacers on it but have put some abuse and no problems so far . As far as the fan comming on i also noticed about 5 minutes of fan then auto shut down but if you key off then it altogther kills and i usually just let it breathe or walk around and streach out before the next leg of riding , I have Never had a auto 2-3 shift , i use slick 50 ,80 wt and never had a problem .

Yeah you don't need to install a relay, just turn the key off and the fan will shut down. The ECU also has a safety circuit in it that will shut down the motor if it gets too hot, so I wouldn't worry too much about it over heating. It does run a little hotter with the Evans, but all-in-all I think Evans is the way to go.
I use Redline Shockproof oil in the tranny with great results.

I can pull the shift lever up with my toe but it just doesnt click into the next gear but if I wait a second or two and let off the throttle a little then it will click right in. It annoying when you are trying to race someone and you are stuck in second you lose quite a bit of ground . I will flush the tranny one more time to get the rest of the amsiol out and see if that finnaly clears it up.
As far as the fan running after shutdown I can pull the key and hit the kill switch and the fan will still run for a few minutes. It will only do this if the fan was already running it will stay running. Like I said its just an annoyance because fan is so noisy I can barely understand what the heck they are saying without shouting.
Ive got 50 hours on my speed and these are the only problems have ever had . The engine seems to have much more power now that is is broke in and really loves full throttle. I dont think my big but will ever be able to use this quad to its full potential.

I did the stud update about 3 months ago and the tranny oil and filter doesnt have an unuasual amount of debris on it. It started right after I changed from mobil 1 to amsoil. Wierd huh?
