New to forum, need help

Hi, I am new to the forum here and have been reading some of the posts. I have gotten more info over the last 2 days from this forum than I have been able to get anywhere. Thank you all very much. I recently purchased a Moto and I absolutely love it. I am having an annoying stalling problem that my dealer just can't seem to figure out. I can't see anything in common with the stallings other than the loud whinning sound that I believe is the fuel pump. Sometimes it stalls at idle, other times at full throttle, it has happened in a turn, on the straight portion of the track and once coming off a jump. It usually starts right back up except when the battery loses its charge from continually restarting. I have religously cleaned the air filter and changed the fuel filter, which are the two things that the dealer told me could be the problem.
I read about the O-ring swelling problem and will look into it. I was wondering if maybe I had an electrical problem. If I don't charge the Quad after every time I ride it, I can't get it to start the next day. It seems like it is not recharging correctly or is draining somehow. It tends to stall more often when the battery is getting low on charge. I have asked the dealer about this and was told that "it takes a lot of juice to start a Cannondale" and to not start it as often. Duh, I guess I am just supposed to push it off the track. Sorry.
Like I said, this is absolutely the best quad I have ever owned and it draws a lot of attention (mostly good) every time I take it out. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I got the name and e-mail address of Mark Schlosnagle at Cannondale and also e-mailed him about this problem. I figured that hopefully, someone may be able to point me in the right direction . Thank you.

What kind of warranty does the Moto come with, the Cannibal has a 6 month warranty, just curious cause if it has a warranty, let the dealer figure it out. It sounds like it's not charging properly when you are riding it. There is no way that you should have to recharge your battery after every ride so as to allow it to start the next day.
It's either not charging properly or you have a short somewhere that is draining the battery down. Can you get the dealer to test out the electrical system. Our quads have some type of alternator, maybe it's at fault, I would think your dealer should be able to put a tester on it to see if it's putting out the proper amperage while the quad is running. The stalling problem may be related to the not charging/not starting issue you are having. Good luck and keep us posted!

Hi, thanks for replying. Moto comes with 6 months warranty just like the rest of the quads. I suggested that the dealer look at the electrical system last time I had the Moto to them. They kept it for 4 days and I got it back the same way I took it there. The dealer told me that they called Cannondale and were told that they were not aware of any stalling or charging problems. I don't believe they ever called. If they had, They would have known what I just found out.
I just got an e-mail from Mark Schlossnagle at Cannondale who seems to think it is one of three things that they have been having a problem with:
1) He said that Cannondale has recently developed a new operating code for units with this problem. He is going to e-mail the dealer the new code so they can install it with their dealer calibration software.
2) There may be a problem with the charging system. He said to check and make sure that the charge across the battery terminals at 3000 RPM is 14 volts DC. If not, this would indicate a a problem in the charging system.
3) Another thing he said to check was the kill switch wires where they connect to the main harness. He said that there are a pair of bullet connectors that need to be tightly connected.
I am taking the Moto back to the dealer tomorrow morning and am pretty confident that I will finally get the moto fixed. I can hardly wait to get it back on the track without the worry of stalling!! I will keep you posted as to whether or not we finally got a fix.

Jimmy440,
The fuel pump should not be whining loudly. If it is, your fuel filter is clogged or the line from the tank to the pump is somehow restricted. Check to make sure that the quick connects on the tank are in place. Sometimes the fuel filter gets clogged quickly if there is any debris in the tank from the factory. The tanks sit on a shelf and are checked before installation but you never know.
Make sure that the relay under the hood is ziptied securely in place, if it flops around and loses contact it will stall randomly.
Good luck with your new ride!

I have the same prob I think on my speed. The first three times to the track no problems. This sunday morning I tried to start it to load it into my truck, and the battery was week.It would turn over
very slowly but not start. I hooked the charger to it and it started right up.I road a few times up and down the street killed it.I wated a few minuts and cranked it back up no problem.
when I got to the track I did a few runs no problem yet.I then started drag racing with a few friend.Every time I gave it full throttle through 1st through 4th and let off it stalled if I never kept it reved up high.when I went back on the track I endoed it through a tough timing section that I comited to and the bike stalled mid airOuch

The Moto is awsome. Great acceleration, unbelievable handling on the track. I ride the track at Chatsworth Off Road Vehicle Park in NJ on the weekends and try to get there 2 or 3 times during the week to ride. If any of you are ever local and want to check it out, e-mail me and I will meet you out there. If you are ever just out there, look for me, I have the only Moto and can usually be found close to the ATV Track. I can't ride the trails at Chatsworth with the rest of my friends because I can't fit down a lot of them. Quad is just too wide. I prefer the track anyhow. I hope to be able to race next year.
I have always had dirtbikes and only got into quads over the past year. I bought a Warrior last April and got bored with it rather quickly. Don't get me wrong, it was a great quad, I just wanted to do more with it than it was capable of. In January I traded the 2001 Warrior, a 2000 YZ80, and a lot of cash for a 2002 Blaze. I loved the Blaze, but found that in order to make it what I wanted it was going to cost me more than the price of the Moto. On March 1st, the dealer took back the Blaze and some more cash and traded me for the Moto. I took a $1000.00 loss on the Blaze, but it was well worth it. If anyone is interested in a nice Blaze, only ridden for 2 months and well maintained, call over to the fun center in Bensalem, PA. Their number is (215)638-7878. I believe they are asking $9500.00. Thanks.

Jimmy440, I saw a Moto and a Blaze for the first time at the new dealer at Little Sahara, the Moto was AWESOME!! I couldn't get over how beafy those a-arms were, that quad is so sexy!! I do wish one thing Cannondale would start doing is offering a choice with the plastic colors. Not that I don't like the colors now but give us at least a choice of 2 colors to pick from on these quads.

I also like the look of the Cannondale and the colors, but saw a cannondale on the Advanced ATV website that I really like the look of. It is a brand new Cannibal with black 250R Fullbore racing cut fenders on it. Awesome. Check it out at advancedatv.com. Just click on the picture to enlarge it. The man who did this is named Curtis Wade. I have spoken to him about this and he said it was fairly easy to modify the plastic to fit the Cannondale. Just some cutting and a lot of patience. I have ordered a set of Fullbore fenders from him, and am going to attempt to make them work. I have not received them yet so I don't know just how much cutting is really involved yet. I will keep you posted on the progress if you want. Wish me luck.
