or bad operator headspace!

I've been feeling bad about all those fouled plugs i hear about and figured I oughta replace my ORIGINAL CR8EK with about 165 run hours. This MC500 cannibal has started 1-2 cranks every time! Timed myself and had the plug out in 25 minutes. Looked a little rich but otherwise excellent. Saved a little time by leaving the Side plastics still attached at the front and only removing the front bolts on the gas tank retaining 'X' bars. Feelin good at this point. Thread the new plug by hand, torque wrench set to 20ft/lbs, give it a couple of turns and feel the crush washer, then 'crick'. The plug broke off at the top of the threads without even 10 lbs!!! 60 second stream of profanity, then slight misting in the eyes. I'm no mechanic dammit! OK EZout time, but the threads are 7" down that hole. I set the quad on end in hopes of keeping crap out of the cylinder and reached it with a 8" 3/8 extension, it was not cross threaded! 1hour into town for 2 new plugs. I'm still worried about crap in the cylinder so i mod the vacuum with a small hose and suck out the cylinder. cant hurt. Put the tank on, she starts, she runs, and today was spent whoopin mild mod raptor bootie!
Day was awesome, no dust, 79degrees perfect ridin til my boy cartwheeled the blaster down a 40' 65degree hill! He's unharmed but the quad needs a new frame. I am gonna get good at this wrenchin!
and that is my story.

Man, that does sound like a scary story.[The plug]

It's one thing to mess one up on a convential cylinder head, but to do it on the Cannondale head is pure bad luck and can't get any worse.

Sorry to hear about your boy, but glad to hear he's okay.

Wrenching doesn't come naturally. I thought it did until the Cannondale came along. Lot's of new stuff to learn. I'm getting there..LOL

After that story I'm of the don't fix what isn't broken rule. Seams everytime I try to improve something the hours and money don't add up to the just leave it alone thought. Hint a polished frame is more labor intensive than unpolished. Oh well it looks good clean.

Thanks guys. I'm of the 'don't fix what ain't broke' opinion too Smitty. Unfortunately, with 3 quads somethin is always broke! My son isn't much help either but I let him know he'll be present for every bolt on the blaster frame swap/top end rebuild!
