Difference between the 1000 and 500 computer
#1
I have an opportunity to purchase a Cannibal, but it has the 500 computer, cable clutch, and round silencer. What is the difference between the two computers? I am new to the Cannondales and any input would be appreciated.
The one I found for sale has only 15 hours and it's in mint condition. He wants $6000. Is this too much or is he in the ballpark? Thanks for replying.

I don't know about the computer, but I give $6600 for my 2003 LE a month ago (no tax). I figure the one you are looking at has the ohlins front shocks compared to mine having arvins. It still seems steep though.
I also have a Cummins Dodge. What all have you done to yours? How many HP? How much torque? Man I love that engine, only thing is I've got too much power for my auto trans (on my third one), it has 60,000 miles and is a 2000 model dually.

the only real difference in the 500 and 1000 is on the 500 you can NOT change the rev limiter. I believe that is the only difference, you will still be able to change the map to what ever but like I said you will not get the full benefit because of the rev limiter.

No, you will not be able to change the mapping to the Moto, Blaze, etc...
The 500 ECU also uses a regular EPROM, I believe, which means you need a chip burner to alter calibrations. I also don't believe software is offered that allows you to alter the cals, so you'd be forced to decode it yourself - good luck.....
I would be interested in seeing the data contained on one of the 500 ECU chips if anyone has it - I may even be able to alter the rev-limit and other parameters - so long as the ECU's processor is fast enough to keep up at above 10,000 RPM.
In my opinion $6000 is WAY too much for an older 500 ECU quad. $5000 would be a little more in line. Being a 500 ECU quad it also means it likely does not have a lot of the updates as the newer models.
If you're looking at spending $6000 anyhow, why not buy an new one for a few hundered dollars more - you get a lot more than just the newer ECM. Plus, the quads with the "Toaster" exhaust are faster than the older quads with the round exhaust, yet still reasonably quiet. Also, the new transmissions are a lot quieter than the older ones.

Thanks for the response guys. I was looking at some posts what people were paying for their Cannondales, and I also agree he is a little steep on price. I noticed a place in California is selling brand new Cannibals for $5799. It would only cost me $140 to ship to Utah.
Blackbird1100xx, my Dodge is a five speed and it hauls some butt. I have a PowerEdge 3 stage chip, Bosch injectors, Straight pipe, and a Lux clutch. I didn't get the automatic because I know a lot of people who have lost their trannies. A buddy of mine works at Advanced Turbo System in Murray, Utah and his dad has a Cummins that puts out over 1100 ft lbs. of torque and over 500 horsepower. He said mine probably puts out between 750 & 800 lbs. torque. It feels like it.
