Whoever told you that 6 speeds have more top end than 5 speeds seriously misled you. You have to look at the gear ratios of all the gears for both bikes. 6th gear is not significantly taller than 5th on the two suzuki's you mentioned, rather the ratios of the 6 speed are closer together to improve acceleration on the less powerful 250.The 500 had a much wider powerband so less shifting actually means better acceleration. This is one reason why todays 250cc motorcross bikes run 5 speeds instead of 6; with the broad power they put out less shifting equals better performance.

The C-dale with out a doubt is the fastest quad made right now as far as 100-200 yard drag racing. Probably the fastest in top speed also. But if you are talking about all the quads ever made the LT500 would probably be the C-dale's best competition. But it would still be a close one with the C-dale beating the LT500 more times than not.

By the way a LT500 will kill a LT250 in every form of drag racing stock for stock.

last time dirtwheels did a hi performance shootout with all the quads, the cdale was the quickest in a short race, but the banshee had the fastest top speed.

thanks for all the replies. if you remember a couple of months back, i raced my big bore 250r (and a friends sparks ported 350r) against knowsalot's cannible. it was a toss up on who got the better start. but one thing was for sure, if knowsalot got the better start, i could not gain on him at all (neither could the 350r). i can say my cannible with the motto mapping and full hmf exhaust is faster than knowsalot's cannible. i used to own a fully ported lt500 flat tracker. a monster machine and it was great for flat tracking but it sucked big time for motto cross action.

Knowsalot's gearing must be different than stock than. Because my son's ESR310 250R, which has the 9 port and a race dome, easily pulls away from my Cannibal which has the moto map and the HMF silencer. My C'dale has stock gearing. This is drag racing in the dunes at Little Sahara, it's pretty even at the start but he kicks my *** as the gears go clicking by.
Maybe the ESR cylinders are alot better than most others!!

not sure on his gearing although i believe it is stock. the difference is my 310r is ported for mx (bottom end power) where your duning 310r is ported for top end power. in drag racing a top end ported cylinder will easily beat a mx ported cylinder. also, we were racing for about 100 to 125 yards. my buddies 350r motor blew and he just sent it to eddie sanders for a resleeve and rebuild. how do you like his work?

Actually the 9 port is ESR's middle port, his 7 is for MX, 9 for general riding and 11 for top end. ESR makes quality items, I have his 5 pipe and silencer as well, fit and finish is second to none.
If you guys were only racing 100 - 125 yards, your MX port should have done better than that, unless traction was an issue.

i'm running a 2001 lonestar no-link chassis. traction is very good on this bike. it was raining slightly and the rear tires on my r were worn. maybe when my cylinder needs resleeving i can get esr to port it for me. it has a mild clean up port on it now. my friend who sent his motor to esr had his quad there and he could not out run me with his 350 sparks motor. his bikes just breaks the tires loose bad. his bike has more power than mine (real noticable in 4th and 5th gears) but i can out run him because my bike hooks up better than his.
