i am going to ride mostly in the woods on trails and occasionally in mud. most people i ride with have sport machines like raptors etc. do cannondales perform well in these conditions or are they race quads only

I ride in all of the conditions you mentioned, with the exception ,for the most part, of mud. I just dont like cleaning my quad as much as I like riding it and if I avoid the mud I have more time to ride. Ride a Cannondale before you decide if it is for you. I can say that you will have a tough time finding riding buddies who can keep up with you! Seriously, though the cannibal or the speed make fine woods machines, and although they aren't as soft and cushy as some of the other bikes out there, they are on a level all their own when it comes to performance. Dont take my word for it, visit a dealer and take one for a spin.

this guy is right. cannondales are great. all i ride is trails and hills, and i love it. you have to get used to hard hit on hills, but it is great once you get it down. i dont like the mud because its hard on bikes. but if you want im sure it would have no problem with it. i got in tire-high mud once and came out, eventually. i say go for it.
