Default C'Dale Batteries?

Is everyone still running the stock batteries? Mine is about ready to cash in. Cold weather staring really raises cain on the batteries. When I Jet Ski'd we ran Gel batteries but I dont know if they would work for ATV's.

If not running stock what did y'all change to? Thanks.

I recently switched from the YTX9BS to a 12 BS. The 9 is listed at 139 CCA and 8hrs. reserve. The 12 is 209CCA and 12 hrs! The 9BS was like $38, i paid $55 for the 12.Here's the catch: The 12 is 1" taller. Doesn't seem like much til you iinstall it. I rearranged the rubber in the battery tray and removed the 2 rubber strips on the hold down bracket. The easiest way to get it in is to remove the starter (2bolts, requires E-8 star socket), and the left bolt on the fuel pressure regulator bracket, so you can swing it out of the way. The 'bowl' on the regulator then clears the batt case by a mm! Curiously, this batt does not rub the motor mounts. I think it's a significant improvement, gee it started mine with a bad crank! I know marcums has a kit to move a different battery to the rear subframe, but haven't seen details.

Ryanstones,
Is the 12bs a sealed battery?I wouldnt want to run a battery with a vent with the aluminum frame I would be afraid of corrosion. Were you able to use the stock holddown?

Yes it is a user sealed battery. Not servicable. Cool, this one is a Champion and came with a 6 compartment acid pack that was real easy to use. I used the stock bracket with a longer bolt and 3 nuts as spacers on each side. Should be fine. I never had a dead or low battery with the 9BS, just thought this was cheap extra capacity.
