Default Check for stud update even with an 03!!!!

Well I went ahead and checked the for the update on my 03 cannibal today and it didnt have the update!!! All of the bolts were tight, but I went ahead and removed them and put generous amounts of red locktite on them. Will this be good for awhile or do I need to get the stud update? If so where can I even get it at now? Thanks.

i wouldnt chance it. i personally think the stud update is the one most important thing that needs to be done to any cannondale. i speak from experiance since we have lost 2 engines from the allen bolts backing out and causing serious engine damage. i was told quadsource will have the kits by next month. if i remember correctly the cost was going to be around $50. any cannondale owner that has not checked for loose bolts or the stud update is playing russian roulette. this failure can cause SERIOUS engine damage.to me it is a very simple question, spend a couple of hours dropping your motor and checking it and fixing if need be or wait for your engine to self destruct and then what you gonna do wth the current status of cannondale in the air and parts being so hard to get.

How involved a process is it to drop the motor and check the bottom stud? If the bottom bolt is blocked by the motor case how can it back out? I hope I can get the update kit from quadsource, since cannondale is pretty much shot. Thanks.

dropping the motor for the first time will probably take you a couple of hours. its not too bad. there are 6 allen head bolts involved in the update. 3 are close together behind the timing chain. go to cannondales website and find the bulletin on the update, there is a very good picture there showing the location of the 6 bolts. if for some reason you cant get the picture off the site e-mail me a fax number and i will fax you a copy.

www.Quadsource.com has the kits. I just hung up the phone with them. They highly recommened to red locktight every bolt in there, not just the update ones. Their kit comes with the crankcase gasket too !!
