DEAN: PRESIDNETIAL CANDIDATE ANTI-ATV
#51
I'm sorry Jerry. Wrong was a bad choice of words. I simply was trying to make the point that your vote did mean something on the basis that it made up part of the 49%. That in itself is worth something and is taken into account by many. By voting, even with the majority, you showed that there is a major interest in the effects of the side of the election which lost. Minority votes must be heavily weighed. History has shown us that many times, the minority becomes the majority. The loses of today can soon become the victories of tommorrow.

One interesting piece of info:
. In almost all cases, the electoral college has been nothing more than a formality. What I mean by this is, only (i think) four times in history has the electoral vote resulted in a different candidate being elected than what the popular vote indicated. Just some thoughts to chew on.

Well for one thing at least everybody aggrees with me on the topic that DEAN IS BAD NEWS FOR ALL OF US AVID ATVERS!!! and i must say that i dident origionally post this i simply found it from somebody in the Land, Trail and Environmental Issues posted by "twentycharacters" but i had to spread the word this is total insanity. even if he takes one right of atvers or one riding area out of our hands its the government wraping its ugly hands farther and farther around our ***** and sqweesing..... i hope all of you post this on every web page and every forum you can to spread the word about this moron.
i hope Bush does win, but since there are people on hard times and see distorted, largely liberal newscasts that attack BUSH EVERY DAY, they may just get pissed and choose to unfairly fire Bush. Get the word out, NO DEAN.
ALSO, check out the CPSC website. They are on the warpath concerning ATVs. They are having (and have had) meetings all across the country to determine "what, if anything should be done" concerning rising ATV injuries. Get involved with this. But, I tell you what they should do - they should butt the hell out! Most accidents they cite with ATVs were b/c the ATVs were operated improperly. They dont see this FACT though. We need to help them see this. They should help educate people with some of that ANNUAL $50 MILLION DOLLAR BUDGET, instead of trying to destroy another sport and many people's way of life, basically.
once again, thanks.

Got this in the email the other day:
Subject: Sequence of Civilizations
HISTORY AND STATISTICS
A warning from Scots Historian Professor Alexander Tyler, circa 1787,
Re: The Fall of the Athenian Republic.
"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can
only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves
largesse (generous gifts) from the public treasury. >From that moment
on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most
benefits from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy
always collapses over loose fiscal policy, (which is) always followed
by
a dictatorship."
"The average age of the world's greatest civilization has been two
hundred years. These nations have progressed through this sequence.
From bondage to spiritual faith; from spiritual faith to great courage;
from courage to liberty; from liberty to abundance, from abundance to
complacency; from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence,
from
dependence back into bondage."
Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University of Law, St. Paul, MN
passed on that gem & provides the following 2000 election facts for
consideration.
Population of counties won by Gore 127 million, won by Bush 143 million
Sq. miles of country won by Gore 580,000, won by Bush 2,427,000 States
won by Gore 19, by Bush 29 Murder per 100,000 residents in counties won
by Gore 13.2 by Bush 2.1 (not a typo)
Professor Olson adds, "And may I add that the map of the territory Bush
won was (mostly) the land owned by the people of this great country.
Not the citizens living in cities owned by the government and living
off
the government.... Taking the path of least resistance is what makes
rivers run crooked! .................... Should we find ourselves in a
state of apathy, think about the quote from Edmund Burke, "The only
thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."
___________
So be sure to vote! ShadyRascal mentioned the land area issue earlier, but the statistic that opened my eyes, it's that one about the murders! That's got to tell you that something is wrong!
I'm actually kind of impressed with what Bush has done. By the end of the Clinton era, anyone looking forward could see we were heading for a train wreck both economically and with foreign policy. I don't quite agree with all of Bush's military actions (man, war is expensive!) but the economy is showing some strong signs of improvement here lately.
Bottom line -- I think there are a lot of miserable people in this country. They vote democrat hoping that somebody else will fix what's wrong, or in the case of ATV's outlaw fun stuff so that everyone is equally miserable. (kind of sounds like communism -- because it is.)

Just to clear something up, the Electoral College was there to ensure that uninformed voters couldn't put a wack job into office. It wasn't intended as just a formality but to make sure that some at least slightly intelligent people made the final decision (after of course the final decision was changed from Congress'). From the founding fathers' intentions, as long as the people are trusted to be well informed, we no longer need an electoral college. It is being examined strongly because it has been so long since the popular vote was won by a candidate and not the electoral vote. What normally is merely formality wasn't this past time as we all know - Gore got more votes than Bush, and lost. Can't you see every other democratic country in the world laughing at how we could manage that? More votes = losing?
Speaking of rolling in their graves .... I bet the founding fathers were turning like a top when Bush Jr. was elected president of this country. They were probably wondering why they didn't include an intelligence requirement to go along with that 39 year old rule ...... lol

Big Ben, that was an excellent post.
Thomez, I snicker at the self-procaimed "intelligentsia" who invariably cast Republicans as dim-witted, as you just did. Bush is a man of clear thinking, selflessness, and principle, something we have been sorely without for a couple of terms.

I surely didn't cast my opinion to all Republicans. That was aimed solely at Bush, thank you. I have utter respect in the intelligence capacities of several prominent Republicans, of which we do not fully agree but I think make valid points and present plausible arguements, 2 of which being Cheney and Powell.

Point taken. I still give W more intellectual credit than the major media. And Cheney is an extremely intelligent guy, would love to see him debate ol slick ***** and disembowel him.
