NEW LAWS IN QUÉBEC , CANADA as of May 1 , 2006

The minimum age for operating an ATV is 16 years old

It should be known that, a document presented by the minister responsible for Transportation in Québec, Madame Julie Boulet, has moved the current minimum age of 14 to 16 for operating a quad and a snowmobile.
A mandatory ATV driving course for 16-17 yrs old is the best way to sensitize young people to the need to respect private property and the community.
The FQCQ, for its part, informed the parliamentary commission that the best way to increase the safety of this clientele was a mandatory ATV driving course for young people 16 and 17 years of age. This measure would make it possible to properly train the largest number of teenagers.
Please know that individuals 14 and 15 years old who have already completed their ATV training course before the law was changed will preserve their right to drive.

That is rough, but I can certainly understand the need. It is too bad they wait until the child is considered an adult before they can get the training etc. What REALLY should be happening is the parents be required to take the training with them. Because they are adults, no such requirement can be established....

May I suggest that you go to ur local ATV Dealer and he could tell you where there are places to ride, also take the advice from other local ATV Riders where to and not to ride at. Where I live law enforcement officials will go to extremes to stop and catch ATV's riding in forbidden areas. I live in between Federal and State Game Lands, the law enforement will run their full size trucks into the back of ur ATV to stop you, just be careful where you choose to ride, im not worried about you, im worried about your 6 year old being rammed from behind with a full size truck.

WOW !!!!! HOLY #%$&*?$#$%?
I never thought that the law enforcers in your part of the world would be THAT stupid to do such thing as ram into the back of an ATV. Us up here in GOD'S COUNTRY we have a different approach to situations like that. That's why we have federation patrollers. Each ATV club has it's own patrollers that are all volunteers. There job is to help and prevent and to sensitize the people to respect private property and the community while riding in the trails

Like motoF150 said please ask your local dealer or an ATV club , but PLEASE don't go riding in area's where it's forbiden ' it's NOT worth it !!!!!!! '

Does'nt each state have it's own federation or ATV club ?????

In Québec , we have one federation divided into more than 150 clubs in 17 regions of the province.

There are more than 278,576 licensed ATVs in Québec, Canada

15% of users of ATV’s are between the ages of 14-19 and don’t have the mandatory course to drive an ATV. If you have your drivers permit as of the age of 18 , you don’t need the mandatory course. But it is highly recommended.

You'll find the following statistics: Evolution of membership, number of members by region, kilometres of trails by region and more!
