i was riding in the woods yesterday and i was approached by somebody (one of my neigbors) who started yelling at me about ruts and saying i have to get out of there, he then pushed me and turned off my quad, this got me mad so i got up and punched him in the face. The problem here is i dont know what the rules in ct are on riding on land that isnt privatly owned, i trhink that makes it state land, am i allowed to legally ride there or do the cops care. need to know if i can get in trouble for riding there and if i need to listen to this hippy.
what are the rules regarding this in connecticut, or in your state

well, i think the punch in the face, no matter if you were right or wrong in doing it, is going to get the cops, if they get involved, to be on his side and not yours. but about the riding. in new york, you can ride on state land but you need to have your quad registered and i believe insured, too. if it's your land, obviously, you can ride there. if it's a private owners land, you need to have their permission and still a registration and insurance. people have problems with us riding on other people's property either because they dont like the noise, or they think it's "hurting the land". they dont realize a few ruts arent hurting anything. now if it's a rut you could sink 85 chevy into up to the hood, that's a different story. if i'm on land that i know i can ride on and see someone tries to stop me, and i have to stop, i keep my distance, just to prevent instances like yours. and if it's hunting season, i just dont ride there. my quad's fast, but not faster than bullets.

You are both guilty of battery. Next time, don't hit him unless you are in immediate danger to yourself (NOT your property.) Though it would be aggrivated on your part. Best thing is to not ride there again unless you KNOW that it is allowed. Most likely, the dude isn't going to report it. If you have bruises, make sure you docuement them.
