I'm thinking of doing this. (Land)

Has anyone here bought any land to use to there ATV use only? I'm really thinking of buying some land now. 8 acres to be exact. There is no where to ride anymore and my whole family loves quads. Do you think 8 acres is enough? We really can't afford anymore at this time anyway. It's Recreational land only.

I have 20 acres and I can ride around it in a couple of minutes. Luckily, it connects with a county forrest of about 7000 acres. There's a major ATV trail through it that connects to the Wild Rivers trail, which is about 80 miles long, I think. If your eight acres is set up like that. it might be worth considering, or if you can ride backroads to get to good trails.
If not, my opinion would be to forget about buying eight acreas. You'll get tired of riding on it after a day or two. Use the money to take some trips to good trails.
You are kind of in the position I was in thirty years ago. I had a choice of buying a cabin on a lake or a cabin cruiser that we could take to many lakes. I chose the cruiser with a camper top, tandem trailer and a vehicle to tow it. We enjoyed a different lake almost every weekend, all the way from Lake of the Ozarks to Voyagers National Park on the Canadian border. We even took a week going down the Mississippi from St. Paul MN to Hannibal MO, pulling up on sandbars every night.
Looking back, I'll admit I may have been better off financially to have bought the cabin on the lake, because it would have appreciated in value. However, I think we had a lot more fun with that cruiser.

I hear what your saying, But around here 8 acres is considered alot. We are all not into driving for miles and miles as most of us just race, so a track will be made. There are snowmobile trails off of this so if we want to heard out a few miles further we can.

I see what you mean. We're in two different worlds. Good luck with your race track.

I have 8 acres here where I live, we have jumps and mud holes and there is even a little straightaway to open up once in a while. if you plan it right it should be alright. just remember to over lap the land so it looks like kids maze. you can make about 3-4 miles out of 8 acres.

It depends on what part of N.H. you are in, some towns have restrictions or zoning and if you have close neighbors, or a chance of any new subdivisions being built. I live near Lee Raceway and we have a lot of new housing being built, that makes land more expensive and harder to find. some of the new homeowners spend 40000.00 or more for a house and if they are from a large metropolitan area, Boston, N.Y. etc. they want peace and quiet, they don't want to see hunters or atvs or snowmobiles and they don't want to hear the stockcars on friday nite. When they move here some of our roads are still dirt ,we have no sidewalks or street lights and there is no curbside trash pickup. These are things that they miss having by moving to N.H. My family has atvs, snowmobiles and I know what you are going thru.We have ridden over in Maine and we go up north in summer to Milan, N.H. there are state trails up there and a large logging company has allowed the state to add on to the trail system on the logging companie's land. We have ridden on Fremont trails ,but the end over by Derry has been closed because of abuters and increased development near trails. Back on March23 on this forum there is an article about atv legislation on private atv trails and private land, also about state havin authority over towns to approve trails.

Yup, I have 9 acres in Wisconsin with nothing but trees and trails on it. It is fine for now, as the 9 year old can get around and have fun with his buddies in a safe environement...
