New York state ATV policy draft!
#1
How many N.Y. riders have been to or are going to these hearings? We went to the one in Canton,N.Y. last night.Tonight there is one in Tupper Lake. This is going to be the new law on ATVs in the whole state as far as riding on state land is concerned. You better get to one of these meetings to voice your concerns or there will be no riding on any state land!!There are several more of these hearings at various places in the state. Here is their web site www.dec.state.ny.us At least email a comment!!

I just put a posting on the "Where to ride" section of this forum about a meeting coming up on 5/12/05 from 5-8pm at Ulster College in Kinston N.Y. My friends and I will be there and so should as many people as possible. Everyone should contact NYSORVA.org to help in the fight for a state trail system in N.Y.

I also want to say that when you do attend these meetings, load your quad on your truck or trailer and park them all together in the parking lot for all to see. The will make a great impresion if we get say 50-100 machines.

The best way to counter something like this is to show up and fight it - strength by numbers. Be organized. And like Zappa said, load your quads on your trucks and trailers and bring them with you and show these people what a presence we can form. Don't let the ******** politicians who are leading this charge think that the ATV community isn't a powerful lobby without a voice. We're everyday people who go to the polls and pay our taxes just like everyone else.

"Picking up Rally Participants along the way"

Arriving at Philadelphia High School on Rt.11 around 1:00 pm. Everyone will then proceed passed Watertown to the Southern Rest Area on I-81 by 1:30 pm (we will park from one end of the on ramp to the end of the off ramp at the rest area for the TV cameras) then at 1:45 pm proceed on I-81 and meeting up with Oswego County ATV club at exit 34, turn left, go over bridge. We will then proceed on I-81 South to HIAWATHA BLVD. then to BEAR ST. Then on 690 West to Solvay exit and the state fair grounds. There we will meet up with fellow ATV riders from the western and southern parts of the state. (TV cameras and the rest of the media will be there.)
(To make this a success we would like just from the northern area over 100 trucks, Trailers, and cars that's about one mile long of ATVers trucking their machines)
Things that you should be aware of:
Please be on your best behavior.
You should elect a contact person to lead the way in your area. (This person should have a map of the entire rally route)
Everyone monitor channel 13 on your small hand held radios.
Everyone also monitor channel 13 if you have CB radios.
Please drive 50-55 the whole way especially on Rt. I-81
Please pack a lunch and a cooler with drinks for the entire day (No Alcohol)
If interviewed by the TV cameras please tell them your concerns as a Trail User.
Please put on your Club’s Colors like Hats, Shirts, and Banners. stand out and be recognized.
Don't forget "Bring your ATV's
No truck Bring a carload of your friends carrying signs.
PLEASE DO NOT DRIVE YOUR ATV'S ON NYS FAIRGROUNDS PROPERTY, KEEP YOUR ATV'S ON YOUR TRAILERS OR TRUCKS.
The 2005, DEC Draft ATV Policy is a poorly written document that contains many restrictions with vague definitions, and lacks any real benefits for ATVs. We feel the DEC is giving the ATV community a message with this draft, which is “We don’t want you on State land”
Please come to this rally and show your support for the right to ride on State Lands. (Land that you pay taxes on.)
THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP TO MAKE THIS A HUGE SUCCESS.
See Ya on the Trails or (It might be See Ya on the Roads if we don't stand up and speak our peace)
Tim T.
