Default ATV's Under Attack! Need Your Help!

ATV use in our province (Nova Scotia) has come under very serious political attack, and the whole nasty situation is going to come to a head before the end of this month. I need some quick information, and as this forum is the biggest one out there I'm hoping to get this info from the forum members. If I had to research this for each individual state and province it would take forever!

Question 1: which states/provinces have a minimum age limit for driving ATV's, and what is the age?
Question 2: which states/provinces require "mandatory written permission" to travel on private land?

If anyone knows of any websites that supply statistics such as numbers of ATV's in use, injury rates, etc., that would be a great help, too.
This is of critical importance and I believe the forum members have the answers. Please let me know as quickly as possible. The future of ATV travel in our province is at stake!!

In California, you are suposed to have written permission from the landowner to ride on private land. There are age "recommendations", but they are not law.

Minnesota has an ATV safety course that can be taken by those 12 and up, passing gives a certificate that allows the rider to be on adult size ATVs,with adult supervision, on public trails.
We don't have a "mandatory" permission to ride law, but it is always a good idea to have permission to ride on private property. But owners can file tresspass charges on anyone without permission, but that is probably the law everywhere.

You're right, permission is needed everywhere for travel on private property. I'm wondering more specifically about mandatory WRITTEN permission.

There are actually age laws in CA, but they aren't the age/engine size from the industry. Bascially there are 2 or three teirs. Under 14 requires the parent to be present at all times and someone with an ATV Safety Cert (doesn't have to be the parent). 14-17 requires the minor to have the cert, but not a parent present. There are some variations though in an "A or B" or "C and D" type of thing. See Division 16.5 of the California Vehicle Code. It's less than 20 pages, so not a big deal to find it.

The law is RARELY enforced. Generally by the "County Mounties" as the CA Parks Rangers are generally too busy.

"bump" is a way of keeping a topic towards the top of the page. The moderator in this case wanted this topic at the top for the originator.

i live in up state ny.if you are 10 to 15 years of age you can operate atv only under adult supervision unless your parents or guardian owns or leases the land,on any land where atv use permited without adult supervision if you have completed a atv safety training course.my big gripe is you have to register your atv even on your own land of course this cost 25.00 bucks this is not a bad thing, but then all of the 'state land where i live has 'NO ATVS.And then they let the sleds run all over. seems to me they just want your money and you get nothing in return.i believe the tax payers is getting ripped off.
