"bump" is a way of keeping a topic towards the top of the page. The moderator in this case wanted this topic at the top for the originator.

Question 2
For Oregon, trespassers on posted private property are liable for all damages and up to $1,000 in liquidated damages:
http://www.leg.state.or.us/99orlaws/...r/0933ses.html
I fail to understand the mentality of people, hunters and/or ATV/dirt bike riders, who trespass on posted, private property. Written permission isn't an issue, all it takes to get a sheriff's deputy on the scene is a telephone call and obviously no permission has been granted if the landowner, generally a voter as our sheriffs are elected, is doing the complaining.

On my property where I ride it is at least an hour to get a deputy out there, and thats only IF one is available AND he can find it. Since 98% of their buisness is 50 miles away at the other end of the county, it is doubtful they would even come. What are they gonna do when they get there other than say "yep, them thar ar atv tracks"? Then if they do arrest someone, they have to take them to another county that has a jail. Some things you just gotta take care of yourself.....

I think NY follows the stupid CSPC recommendations as law. At least the dealers do anyway but that may have to do with the manufacturers, so I'm not 100% sure about that.
Private land technically requires written permission. I have gotten verbal permission for most places and that seems to have worked well enough. georged nailed it...I can't imagine you'd have a problem riding on someone's land if they told you you could be there to begin with.
