Wallowa-Whitman National Forest
#1
The management of the Wallowa Whitman National Forest is about to take action that basically eliminates the entire 2.4 million acres of the Forest from use by ATV. The process as dictated by law is being scoffed at by the forest supervisor and others and the public is basically being told.....This is what we are going to do. A single stroke of the pen will eliminate 5000 miles of forest roads, some dating from before the turn of the century.
Do you ride National Forest or other public ground? This same process can happen to you in your area.............Tass

There have been several meetings and discussions within the three counties that make up the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest. Baker County, Union County, Wallowa County. I was incorrect about the 5000 miles in my first post. Its actually over 6000 miles. I am somewhat surprised that there were so few people raising hell about the issue. It would seem that lock it up and shut it down is perfectly acceptable to folks. Are we so used to government takeover of public rights and lands that we do not comment and involve ourselves? I was hoping this forum would generate a bit of excitement and comment but I guess that can only happen if I pick on someone that rides something other than a Honda........
Each state that has public land managed by the USFS will be going through this process before the end of 2009 or HAS ALREADY DONE SO. If riders from all states would send e-mails to their national congressmen about the shutdown of the Wallowa Whitman National Forest I guarentee something would happen. If riders would join together and fight each others fights something would happen. Does anyone reading this message have the time and energy to throw a little fit with their congressment over this outrage? The issue is the Access and Travel Management Plan, the loss is 6000 miles of access. I hope it matters to someone...................Tass

Through the efforts of local citizens and input from ATV riders throughout the state and 9 responses from folks from ATV Connections the Wallowa Whitman has extended the comment period another 90 days to November 17, 2007. If you have a desire to help Eastern Oregon keep motorized access to the Wallowa Whitman please send in your comments..........You owe it to yourself to check on the Travel Management plans in your area also........I know you will be shocked........Tass

It is time for all of you to take a look at the current direction for motorized recreation on the public land near you. More and more articles are pointing out the fact that unless you and your friends get involved the trails and roads you enjoy now will be forever locked up. Not just to ATV but to motorcycle and pickup and car use. Your access will soon be eliminated.....We are involved in the process on the Wallowa Whitman in Oregon.....We hope to make a difference...Taas
