Wouldn't it be great if the federal government built a trail going from the west coast to the east coast and from north to south.
I would take a month off and just explore the US on my ATV, much like bikers do.

I would vote yes but I keep getting an error. Any way I think that would be awsome. I have been thinking about the old rail road beds that are not in use any more. Those would make great trails. I think alot of the land owners here in arkansas took them back over though, dont know about the rest of the country.

Here in Pa we used to use the old rail road tracks to get from town to town for 30yrs. It was great, hundreds of miles of totally unused trails. Now the state has used our atv registration money to turn these tracks into WALKING TRAILS! Now you will recieve a hefty fine if you get caught on them. Ive been riding the tracks for about ten yrs. now and my father before me and we have never ever seen anyone walking on them, unless someone was broke down on them. Some of the tracks are so far out in the woods you would have to be a marathon runner to walk/run that far. Now where do you think the state would have made out better, doing what they did or making everyone who wants to ride the tracks pay a yearly fee.

it would be an expensive trip with the gas prices, compared to 20 mpg with a quad, to 60 mpg with a bike

Yes but it would be nice to have trail you could all day long without the small mountain loop type trails' where you have to ride over the same trail a dozen time's just to get in a good day's ride , the only trail;s you can ride in my part of north ga. you have to drive/haul your ATV's at least 30 mile's to get to these small 10 - to 14 mile loop's ; and it doesn't take long to get borred of riding the same place's all the time ! One of the forest system's we ride cut serveral hundred thousand acres of timber from the mountain , they had to make road's to get the machinery and truck's to haul out the timber ; the trails/roads they cut would've made at 50 - to -100 mile's of ATV trail's to ride on ! But did they???? no they just left it barren posted land that they claimed ATV's and motorcycles would hurt the land ; the government sure like the tax money ATV're pay in sales tax ; but not enought to give us some of 20 extra mile's of trail's they've been promising to give us over 10 years ago ! But i guess we're lucky they haven't closed down the trail's we have now , and you really can't blame the tree huggers in this case because the forrest service allowed timber companies to cut down all the tree's ! Well i've ranted enough i guess but it really bites the way the government work's , they buy the land with tax payer's money then sell the timber right's to the timber companies and just post's the land untill some big private companies come along and buy ; and what do the tax payer's get the shaft that's what we get ! williebee

I've thought of this forever! Great idea! But what if your quad can't overcome certain obstacles? It'd be pretty sweet if they had bridges, and allowed you to take argos and such through the river.

It is a great idea, a place for motorized access and travel. Everyone that read the post or commented on the post should be aware the Federal Government is now closing almost all motorized access to public lands......The concept of a coast to coast, border to border trail system is wonderful.......Check with the parks division or the forest service or the BLM in your area. Instead of creating something that makes sense, they are closing what you already have. Think about it. It surprises me that with all the posts on this site we never have anyone respond that is a federal official involved with trails, roads, or access to public lands. You can bet your butt someone is reading them and passing them on to the big boys.........Caring for the land and Serving the people??????????? Pure BS.......Tass
