Lets say you wanted State Funded trails..

My question is, I am planning an ATV Buy in the very near future, This website along with a few others have been great along the lines of finding riders in the area, and advice on different quads.
However, in Orange County NY, their are no such trail systems. My Uncles cabin is up in the Catskills, a huge state land area, with NO trails and he said if you get cought riding on state lands they impound your quad.
The funny thing is, NY ATV's requires you to have your Quad Registered and Insured.. yet We have no state trails for me to ride on.
My question is, Who would I speak to or write to in order to get someone to lobby for state trails for us riders?

OK - I gotta ask - WHY are you buying an ATV when you know full well there's no place to ride?!?!?

Try NOHVCC, Blue Ribbon Coalition or Tread Lightly for political info. You could also search for 'ATV clubs in NY' (there's not many near us)
btw - Tug Hill is a legal riding area about 3.5 hrs from Newburgh (must be registered and insured). MA also has legal trails (3 hrs away), also need reg (MA) and ins.. PA has tons of trails less than 2.25 hrs from Newburgh. In NJ you have Lost Trails ATV Park - I don't know how far that is.

Well I have plenty of Private Property to ride on, by myself. However, I know with most hobbies, Finding fellow enthusiasts are where the real fun comes in =)

You got that right - it's not as much fun and not really safe to be out there by yourself. Believe me, you'll have plenty of friends if you have land to ride on. Do yourself a favor tho - make friends via pm's. If you post the location you might get more friends than you bargained for.
What kind of machine are you looking at? Are you buying new?

All good choices -
The Honda is reliable but I'd go with the AT, not ES. It's also the most expensive pound for pound, cc for cc, IMO.
The Big Bear is a great work machine but I think if you do mostly trail riding you'd be much, much happier with the Grizzly.
They're all great machines tho. Good luck!!
