Safety Lists
#2
It depends on where you are riding, the terrain etc. I never ride unless I have my helmet, gloves, goggles, riding pants, long sleeve shirt (Jersey) and riding boots on. Throw in a chest protector too. You might want to consider a neck roll/brace for youngsters because the head/helmet combination is prone to whiplash if they fall. Little chicken necks don't have enough strength to keep their heads still... Along with that, at least one machine in my group will have the basics of a tool kit, first aid kit, and a Fully charged Cell phone, (THIS IS MOST IMPORTANT) If you have ever needed help on the trail, a cell phone is critical. If one of your riders needs medication like diabetic or something, then I always have that on me too. (I am diabetic and have a heart condition) If you travel in the mountains, I always have rain gear, and at least one sweatshirt stuffed in a bag somewhere. Bring matches, a SHARP knife and a Boyscout fire starter. And last, a camper sized package of toilet paper. (Fit's in a pocket. Maybe some energy bars and a emergency blanket. I'd consider signal flares if I were really going into the bush.
I am looking at getting a chatterbox for use when my son goes with me. You can talk him through the worst of the things he will face on teh trail. (He is a newbie and just hearing a friendly voice is reasuring some times.)
Lastly, I carry a tow rope and spare plug with me at all times.
