Another land dispute

I was riding my 07 Eiger in the woods behind my house today. People have been riding these trails for EVER. So I am up at one end and these two guys are standing there when I come back. They tell me that I am the ONE responsible for tearing up all the trails, remember now that I have only had my atv for TWO months. I told them that this was only the second time I was ever back there and they said it doesn't matter. They said I was trespassing. When I got home I looked on the internet and found that it was NOT their land. I printed out the property boundaries and information, laminated it, and now keep it on my ATV. Anybody else run into the same problem?

Yes, in the Northeast (New England) riding is pretty much limited to some state parks and club trails that get landowner permission to cut trails and have people going on them. Other than that, if you don't have express written permission to ride on private property you can be fined. I've seen fines of over $120 before. Also, other than private property where you have permission, you have to be registered with the state. The only two states in the NE that have a reciprocal agreement is NH and VT.

If you show those 2 guys the map and it turns out they dont own the land they think they do. Wow look out!! Plus it is coming from the guy they think is making the mess. All I can say is watch for wire. Pissed land owners and/or enviro. nuts can be your worst nightmare. I also live in New England. Up here I think it is legal to hunt people who ride atvs.

Just about legal no1. Our club bends over backwards to please the landowners. We've got to. If the landowners get ticked off that part of the trail system gets closed. We have two major parts of our trail system and we could link them together with a trail that led from a gas station and area with food. It's now closed. So, we either can ride one side or the other. That's just how it is here. Still, I have to side with landowners. IT IS THEIR land to do with pretty much as they please. If you run into someone kind enough to let you ride on their land and put up with the noise, dust, trash, and possible damage some unscrupulous riders leave behind, you should stop and say, "thank you", every opportunity you get. I've seen some of the stuff people do and I've even said to myself, "you know, if I owned this property I'd close it off".
